    How many people stack silver?

My workplace has 5 workers (some would say only 3 or 4 ! ) A couple of months ago one of them says to me, "I'm thinking of buying some silver Bill...' (showing me some pics of 1 kg and 10 oz bars on the Perth Mint website). I had never mentioned my stacking to him so can't claim any influence...

If you're a FREEGAN or Dumpster Diver...

Road treasure is a whole new topic. I love coming across a good bit of road treasure ! I've had some great finds - spanners, pliers and other assorted tools - things that you only see at walking/pushbike speeds. Bill

If you're a FREEGAN or Dumpster Diver...

Yeah, i've been on a few diving expeditions. You have to be selective though. You don't want to be picking something that is there as a result of a product recall or something... However one thing that is for certain is that store employees are lazy. Some of the best finds are where a single...

    Today I found (while detecting)...

Here's my worthwhile keepers from detecting. Any decimal has obviously been sent back into the system. This is several years of finds made with my Minelab Sovereign XS 2 Pro that I bought new in about 1999 or thereabouts. I find quite a few pennies as well but they don't generally make it...

    Why do you buy silver?

I don't know why i buy it , but I should be more careful with it when I do. I leave it lying around and my wife steals it. So far she has 1 x 10 oz bar, 5 x 1 oz coins, and 8 gold coins that she wont give back. I'm hoping she has stashed them... Bill

Death and Taxes and which coins?

The real money will come when the gold is sold??? Funny how someone can collect/invest in something that is so valuable and yet when it comes to being inherited, the first thing that happens is it gets sold off for cash. She'll probably invest it somewhere where she'll make some more real...

    A Newbie wanting some insight

Here is what I think I should have done. I should have bought myself a gold sovereign each month as it wouldn't be a huge stretch financially to do so. Over my working life to age 65 that would be about 564 coins. Once I hit retirement I could then sell them off at a rate of 2 coins a month...

Trader Dan - he makes a good point

Yeah that's a good idea. No income or other tax. (imagine how simple it would be). Just print the govt. spending money into existence, then everyone's money is inflated away at the same rate. The rich (cash holding) pay more taxes and the poor pay less proportionately. Clever people (like...

    What to buy?? Budget 75k

I'd go 60/40 $ split gold/silver and in something like PMDS unallocated gold / pool allocated silver (It's govt. backed and i'm pretty sure they actually have the metal). I think if your dropping in $ 75 k at the drop of a hat then chances are that you may wish to pull it out at the drop of a...

Advice needed for large PayPal transaction, possible scam?

They tell you they are on an oil rig or whatever and they only get paid monthly or similar and they are skint at the moment because they had a stack of bills / bad luck happen to them etc and have no cash . The scam is they tell you that if you would kindly pay the courier fee they will later...

    silver bar prices

Go for pool allocated. Perth mint publish their list of pool allocated silver bars. Almost the same as unallocated but they charge a storage fee. I'm almost certain they actually have the product on hand. Some would say otherwise - but then those people may like to hold all their stash in...

    The unwritten rule of trading.

I have a post in the Gold Coin section about my experience. Short story; Made contact with seller to buy a gold coin (sovereign). Seller asked my SS name. I sent $. I received coin. Coin was a dud (fake / copy / whatever you want to call it). Alerted seller who replaced coin with genuine...

    The unwritten rule of trading.

What about people like me? I had an 'awkward' experience purchasing something from someone on this site and probably should have left a negative rating for the initial transaction. My thoughts though, were that my negative comment would have been the only negative comment against this person...

    Pensioners or centerlink recipients

Even most Baby Boomers were migrated onto some sort of superannuation plan. I'm meaning the oldies, from back when the age pension was it as far as retirement $. Bill

    Pensioners or centerlink recipients

    1. Age pensioners deserve a raise. Most worked plenty of years to get it. 2. Did you know that when you go onto the disability pension you no longer have to show that you are looking for work (because supposedly you cant). I know a person who had a party to celebrate his rise to...

    1885 jubilee sovereign?

I guess it could be platinum. But I thought those fakes were made in the 1840's - 1870's sometime. I'm not really sure. Yours would obviously have to have been made sometime after the Jubilee head came in in 1887. S.G. for Sovs @ 22K should be between 17.7 - 17.8 grams/cubic centimetre -...

    1885 jubilee sovereign?

I 'accidentally" bought one of these too (jewellers copy... probably). Check my post under the GOLD COIN section. Mine showed on a S.G. test to be between 13- 15 Carat though, so I had it changed by the seller. I'm concerned that both you and I, as newbies to Sov's, were both able to pick...

    My first international purchase

I like it. I'd probably only buy 1 though. But then again when spot is < $30 who cares - might as well make it 2. I think some of the knockers are probably still trying to bring down the average price of their stack after stocking up last year at > $40 (They only paid spot though... to show...

    Scored a fake Sovereign...

Possibly. But if a person wanted a Jewellers copy, I'm sure one could be purchased - at the right price. If you pay full tote though, you wouldn't expect to get a copy for your money. Bill
