It's unfortunate that the 999 has been scratched, but a messy buffed finish on a PM bar is pretty common. Most dealers have a disclaimer on their site regarding PM bars being 'bullion' or 'investment' grade - shame though!

Limited mintage definitely a factor. And while both can be a bit hit and miss, in more recent years the Perth Mint has managed to produce some terrible, terrible Koala designs..

I love the look of the new 1kg silver JM bars, but none of my regular online dealers seem to stock it!

At current spot it's around $408 worth of gold, so that mark up is about right.

I agree it's a beautiful looking coin, and the Ainslie shipping rates are bordering on the ridiculous, but 5,000 coins is not a lot!

With only 5,000 of these available from Ainslie in Australia, the fact that these are still available surprises me?! Has this been a flop?

Very limited range and non competitive prices on the few occasions I've checked out their website. It's a shame as it would be nice if they were in the mix.
