Need advice buying at local coin shop in Canada

Silver isn’t rare. Osmium is. Holmium perhaps. These are items that might go wild in a squeeze, but most probably end in the gutter with the rest in a market slump. That includes silver AND gold. That’s what happened in 2007-8 despite all the pundits in chorus saying how high both would go. Dead...

    Rhodium and Palladium valuations

The issue is emissions standards applied from the UN to major markets - EU, then China and in the next few months, India This is tempered by lacklustre auto sales The supply side of rhodium is hard to scale up due to it mainly being a byproduct, hence the squeeze. Who is to say investors are...

    Where to sell rhodium

On the GS website, one ounce Rh page, right under the sale price it has the buyback. Where did you see 94%? I’ve looked at a US vendor and they will pay around 75% of spot too https://aupreciousmetals.com/sell-rhodium-in-michigan/

    Where to sell rhodium

Are you sure GS is buying at 94% of spot? From their website buyback is more like 75%

    is rhodium a buy?

Depending on what you read, live price is now USD 10250 or 9895 https://www.metalsdaily.com/live-prices/pgms/ Given that Bharat 6 is coming in for India in April, you have to wonder if this is preemptive. Maybe with some speculative froth driving it. It would be nice to look at who is buying.

    Buying gold on holidays.

The GST exemption on importing investment bar and coin of a certain fineness applies to gold, silver and platinum “and other metals” in the fine text of the regulations For gold I think it is .95 and for silver .999 You’d best check but that’s a single search and click away for the topic An...

Normal is whatever is the middle of the road at the time. As you know, the goal posts move quite a bit. So, normal is not a worthy reference point. I would say the premiums offered to you might be “normal” for the vendor’s point of view with circulated coins, but whether that means a bad deal...

    Where to sell rhodium

I’m thinking of Kitco - but looking at the bid price it is well under 9k USD there. You could try calling KJC in Sydney. The price action is pretty steep at the moment. If GS is *buying* at 94% of spot then that might not be so bad considering spot has jumped about 40% in 2 weeks

    Cognac as an Investment

I’d probably try and identify the year of bottling. You might look at batch numbers if the XO is numbered. Some years may attract a premium. If it is like whisky, then not a lot more is supposed to happen in the bottle. Not sure I agree - when to a whisky convention in Melbourne many years ago...

Osmium - far rarer and denser than gold, palladium, or platinum

Their prices are a joke! There’s another site with refined ingots of .95 fineness, 1 ounce for about 995 USD. Looks like a fairly new outfit and that is due to the market being fairly new for investment

Osmium - far rarer and denser than gold, palladium, or platinum

I’m looking at osmium - it is a platinum group metal and said to be the rarest metal in the earth’s crust (would have to confirm that). It is much more common in space rock and is mined from meteorite craters. Most would know it has very high density (ironic when it comes from space itself)...

    is rhodium a buy?

When you say it isn’t easy to sell, you might be right but also I see KJC has not had half ounce stock on their website for some time and I haven’t seen 5 ounce there even listed for a while. I’d also be thinking of a global market for this one. From what I have read, emissions standards are...

    is rhodium a buy?

ATH = all time high. The rate of change in long term graph suggests a top is coming. Live price is now 9400 USD https://www.moneymetals.com/precious-metals-charts/rhodium-price As for selling, “what a problem to have”. I expect there is a big spread between buy and sell in Australia. There...

    Opinions on Silver Krugerrand coins?

My info above is a little out of date, but fwiw http://www.perthmintbullion.com/blog/blog/15-01-05/Perth_Mint_Tackles_Milk_Spot_Issue.aspx Looks like more was done subsequently to identify the issue. Washing the coin might do it. I’ve read acetone might help. Ian, any views on organic solvents...

    Opinions on Silver Krugerrand coins?

There was a good article on milk spots here ages ago - might have been by Bron. Well worth a read. Electron microscopy revealed that the spots may be reactions to tiny inclusion bodies such as airborne particulates settling on the surface of the coins in the manufacturing process. If spots are...

    Opinions on Silver Krugerrand coins?

They aren’t competitive and the brand is tarnished by the very racist actions of the CURRENT South African government. Even if the politics are stripped away and this is purely transactional - the bottom line it is a mass produced bullion coin and a bit more expensive that others in the same...
