So I am rather disappointed they did not go with the commemorative design for the 2017 bullion sovereign. Instead, they've stuck with the same old design and included some sort of shield mint mark that is (in their words) "placed proudly below the defeated dragon"...

That's interesting. One thing to note is the Royal Mint currently has only a 5-year licensing agreement with MMTC-PAMP India to produce the "I" sovereigns, running from 2013 through 2017.
I suppose if you aren't paying too much of a premium on the 1918 sovereigns, it should work out well for...
I may have stumbled on something on the Royal Mint website. I don't think they've announced this yet, but it looks like they are releasing a silver proof version of the Lion of England coin.
