    Excellent post mmm shiney !

    Most of the coins are Egyptian from VANGBAC, and will get back to them.

    About different mints during the Ottomans

    I came across a photo that displays the same coin but 4 different mints

    [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/531_4_mints.jpg][IMG][/imgz]

    Upper left is Konstantiniyah ( Constantinople- Istanbul - by far the most minted together with Misir - Egypt )
    Upper right is Kosova ( Kosovo - Former republic within Yugoslavia, recently gained independence - mostly Albanian population - former southern Serbia)
    THIS ONE IS EXPENSIVE AND COSTS ABOUT 7 + TIMES MORE THAN THE STANDARD ISSUES FROM KONSTANTINOPLE OR MISIR
    Lower left is Manastir ( currently in Macedonia )
    Lower right is Sallonika ( Thessaloniki in Greece )

    All the 3 other mint coins cost a lot more than the standard ones.

    See below for a coin minted in Bursa ( present day Turkey )
    [imgz=http://forums.silverstackers.com/uploads/531_bursa_mint.jpg][IMG][/imgz]

    and a nice toned 2 Kurush minted in Kosova - sold on eBay for $180

    The Sultan at the time Mohamed V had these coins actually minted in Constantinople and took them on a regnal visit to those cities and spent the money there

    LOWER LEFT : 5 Stotinki Bulgaria 1913 Cu-Ni mintage 20.0 mill

    The Palestinian coin has Palestine written in English ( centre doh ! :) ), Feelesteen ( Arabic on the right ) , Feeleshtinah ( E Y ) ( Hebrew on the left - the 2 letters in the brackets are Aleph & Yod which stand for
    E & Y which stand for Eretz Yisrael which means the State of Israel.

    I have a few of the Palestinian coins myself - they are nice, you dont need the clasp nor the bezel and you can still wear em around your neck - ( due to the hole :) )

    So am i Vangbac, and thoroughly enjoying it. Once you get an "eye" for being able to read these coins it makes much more sense. A few days ago they were just lots of squiggles to me, now I can see the inscriptions as a language. Might have meself a new hobby. :D

    photo courtesy Ponterio & AssociatesThis specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1898-1904 at the Culiacan mint, which closed in 1905. This twenty centavo piece replaced the twenty-five centavo piece struck 1869-92. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavo piece in the 1905 reform that changed "Republica Mexicana" to "Estados Unidos Mexicanos." Culiacan is probably the second most common of the four mints that struck the type. The first specimen was lot 9012 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 20 Centavos, 1900-CnQ. NGC MS-63." The second specimen was lot 9013 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $138. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 20 Centavos, 1900-CnQ. NGC MS-62."

    Specification: 5.41 g, .903 fine silver, .157 troy oz ASW.

    Recorded mintage: 68,000.

    Hi this I think is the same coin. Seems quite rare but this one has at some time been a pendent.photo shows the small bit of metal could it be removed to have a normal scarce coin. How much would this effect the price?

    Very good research, Vangbac...

    LOTS, unfortunately... in numismatic terms, it's the difference between a highly collectable coin and a silver round.

    That's the first thing to be told to any would-be collector...

    Leave them alone, don't try to rub away the years, collectors enjoy a 'dirty' coin more than a polished one !

    In general, coins that have been drilled, holed or welded for a pendant are only good as a reference, at best, or for their precious metal content.

    Now it doesn't mean that this coin is worthless, I'll bid $10 for it !

    :cool:

    Unless someone is prepared to buy it for more... YES ! (btw, $10 is already 3 times the silver value)

    I have not enough experience to value the Islamic (Arabic) coins, that's why I leave these to THU73 to discuss...

    The bunch of copper coins is interesting... I don't usually go for those, but I am prepared to pay $10 for that lot, only because I like the Zuid Afrikan Penny, nice coin !

    The Chinese coins (holed ones) are anybody's guess, I have many of them and still don't know their worth ?

    The coppers are nice.

    The chinese/korean/japanese coins dont do it for me and i cant even identify them with the catalogue - nor do i have the willingness to do it :)

    Any more coins ?!
