    Thank you Dan Unda...

    so according to your calc.

    approx 0.14 oz ASW @ .800 = 0.112 oz

    @today's price of $33.27 = $3.73

Gee that was a pretty good guess, then...

As I said, folks, I have no idea about my bids, so please, feel free to counter and increase those bids !

The silver showing two birds facing each other (peacocks ,I think) is Japanese 50 sen.

I have two of these.Mine are 1924 and 1923 dates..although I am going by the dealers tags on the coin flip ,not my understanding of Japanese writing

Silver content is( from memory) .800 fine

I had a look in my Krause, about the Japanese 50 Sen...

    Mint Year: 1924 (Yr. 13)
    Denomination: 50 Sen
    Country: Japan, Emperor Yoshihito
    Diameter: 23.8 mm
Material: 0.7200 Silver 0.1146 oz. ASW
    Mintage: 78.520

    Price: $10 - $20 in average condition.

Better ones (like this one?) can fetch much more, of course.

I think this is pretty right, but don't mind being challenged...

No idea about the one with the hole in it, but I would be willing to make a small wager that most (if not all) of the others (apart from the Jap already mentioned) are Egyptian..

Would need to do some "googling" to determine denominations & composition..

Is this Japanese 50 Sen similar to your 1924 ?

I had to do a guess work with the date...

I know it goes from right to left, like the Arabic numbers, and looking at the Sunny side, which I could compare to one on Ebay dated 1923, there seemed to be one digit difference, and being one more digit, I guessed that it could be 1924.
Now it could also be a 1922 for all I know...

If you have the 1924, is this coin anything like it ?

    :cool

There was a 1924 on Ebay, 110672913538 in good condition

It looked the same as this one !

And it went for US $7.60

    So there you go.

I'll give it a very amateur go one at a time, thucy will either confirm or laugh himself sick, also with an explanation of how I worked it out.
Coin 1: 20 Qirsh, Egypt (Misr). I think it is silver (.833), 27.59gm, 40mm, minted in about 1912. Thucy please help, I'm learning.

Now I don't own a Krause so using info from previous posts above as well as:

i looked at the reverse side first (2nd image) the 4 digit number at the bottom when translated is 1327 (Islam calendar year) 1909 (Gregorian), the digit at the top is a 3, meaning 3rd year of reign = 1330. Which is 1912 (Gregorian)

Quick google search for "sultan ascended 1909" returned Mehmet V. Now using "ottomanegyptcode" above, year of reign (3) at top, snake looking thing means "struck" followed by "in" with a longer snake think "misr".

Obverse shows more but I'm stuffed and can't ...... go ....................o..................n

domd...on looking at the date on my two VANGBACS coin is not either date. Both mine have different characters .
For example at 7 o'clock there are 3 horizontal lines. My 1923 has 2 and my '24 has 1.

There are other differences ,but at least we can rule it out as either of those two dates..As you say it might be a '22

I am pretty much a greenhorn when it comes to identifying coins, but this is a good opportunity to bone up for our own enlightenment :)

Are you sure about your dates ?

Because I chased one on Ebay (110672913538), identical markings. and the date is 1924 !

The 4th symbol from right to left has 3 horizontal lines, like the one on Vangbac picture...

Again, the one identified on Ebay as a 1923 had only 2 horzontal bars, like your 1923,

I doubt that they would go backward in counting the years.

In any case, it's just a slight difference in Mintage and price.

It is possible the coin dealer who sold it to me has messed up the dates, dom :)

As I said ,I am not reading the characters on the coin ,just describing them...The '24 has only 1 horizontal line..double checked.

As to your estimate on price .He has graded mine as A/Unc.And I paid $20.00 from memory.Good call:)

Why don't you approach Vangbac with a $10 or whatever bid, then you'll have 3 consecutive dates...

It looks like a rather nice coin !

I am only doing this for knowledge, I was interested to see how to identify the Islamic markings, they have a certain attraction, that's for sure, but so far I haven't been able to make much sense of it. it's a learning curve.
