I recently did a trade for a 5oz Ox. I specifically asked the seller if the coin was in mint condition, he replied its fine. Well I received the coin and you guessed it, it has a scratch on it. I told the seller I would be returning the coin and he has refused to accept it back saying he was happy with the one he sent me. Well I'm not! What to do, name and shame? Leave him neg feedback? Put it down to experience and move on? What does everyone think?
yeah there a ways to deal with people and he is being a jerk, it's very much like customer service in australia in general, we rank very low in that dept'. but the good thing is, now days we have the internet, we discuss things, good and bad, i think if you make your bed you sleep in it, who is he? pleanty people to buy from, i'd rather he not cross my path as I wouldn't be taking that attitude, i'd be at his front door on the principle of it, not the coin, but his attitude. saying it's "fine" is saying to you, don't worry mate, you'll be wrapped. so to then send a dud and not give a toss afterwards deserve a slap on the back of the neck, hard!
"Fine" is a defined numismatic term. It is the same as saying a coin is good. "Good" is also a defined numismatic term which means anything but good. If the seller was being disingenuous by calling it fine then they are a bit shady for sure. A coin can be fine with a detracting mark, such as a scratch. However they may be concerned that you did a switch when you received the coin, which is not unknown unfortunately.
I've contacted the other party and requested that they rectify the situation. Not particularly impressed they chose to very recently disable their feedback.
Latest reply from the seller and I quote. "Put the coin on E-bay, they are going for over 350 bucks. You'll make 50 bucks in a week" Will name and shame tonight when I get home. I will also put up a picture of the coin.
Yes, Yes and No Unacceptable conduct - a direct question of a matter of importance requires a direct accurate answer, not obfuscation. If you wanted to get technical, it's a breach of a fundamental term of the contract formed between you, entitling you to terminate the sale and not only have a refund, but also any costs associated with the termination of the sale and finding an alternate item imo (IANAL!)
Public lynching I say If you asked the question & got a response that "it was suppose to be all goo " The seller knew what he was doing PUBLIC LYNCHING I SAY If you don't get a refund
I've only had 2 bad trades on here ,so My crystal ball tells me The culprit will will never been seen again here
yeah i understand the grading of coins as fine, but i thought he sounded like he said, it's fine, as in, nah it's all good. if said it actually was fine in condition then that's worse. selling a $350 item on ebay costs about $40 in ebay & paypal fees so you don't win there either, nah there's only one thing that can be done, he needs to simply return your money and you give the coin back, no one loses and forget it, surely he is not that stupid to burn himself on one silly coin? Feedback should be compulsory for everyone except commercial businesses on here.
