Australia Air Express (delivery side owned by Startrack Express) offers insurance and handles deliveries from PM and Ainslie. I am happy with Platinum because it is fast, secure and safe. However, I would hate to be that 1% or 0.01% that goes missing as there must a failure rate. As for eBay, I am happy to buy PM on eBay and happy to Pay with Paypal knowing that I am covered if the item does not arrive. As for eBay being a rip off!? It really depends where you are coming from. What are the alternatives? Same with Paypal. What are thre alternatives? Set up your own merchant account? I often pay with PP for a really great reason. Recently (22nd of Feb) I bought a 5 kg lump of silver. I pay for that in my next credit card cycle which is due on 13th April. I have since sold that lump for a modest profit, and still have my CC bill to pay in a week's time. I love eBay and I love PP. Still there has to be a better way of sending PM that AUSPOST!
I've had a quick look at for sale threads and I gotta tell ya - most of them state postage at is at the cost of the buyer, but nothing about who takes the risk!?
But are they insuring PM (coins and bullion)? Or do they specifically exclude such items? For $6 - well you get what you pay for.
I guess that means we have no savvie sellers here on SS at the moment... either that or they can afford the loss (like Malachi ) should that occur
Or they do what I do on larger buys and clarify with the seller who is carrying the risk in the PM's between us before confirming the deal... I have carried the risk on two sale transactions since they were unusual items and I wanted the buyer to feel secure knowing refund/return was available if anything went wrong But fwiw, I've had this same discussion with a couple of other local stackers and there's no clear consensus on who bears the risk if it's not discussed beforehand between the 2 parties
The paper trail for me is only the details at the PO Box and Paypal which has a linked Bank Account. Those are as much of a risk of compromise as any other online system. As for Australia Post your original question. I say it is tough luck if it goes missing and after all reasonable efforts to trace are exhausted. The buyer has no other choice but to take the loss. If they choose Aus Post then they are aware of the fact they do not insure in these circumstances. If the seller shows a receipt for lodging at a Post Office they have completed their obligation. This of course opens a heap of what if's so things like trading feedback etc... would come into it. My 2c
I've had premium mobile phones stolen by couriers. It is a shit fight getting compensation though it eventially comes. Once the casual driver knows what you're sending, you'll start losing parcels.
If you were sending bullion then you would. You could try argue around it (describe it as metal samples, disks, etc) but at the end of the day it's you unless you've come to an understanding with the purchaser. However - the fact that it only takes 24 hours and that it is tracked at every check point makes it pretty hard for it to get lost unless it is by pure theft. If it is as theft then it would be fairly easy to prove (and charge) because everyone that handles your parcel has to put it through the computer bar code scanner. Any employee that is at risk of losing their job because of a theft charge is going to be pretty careful. I would be surprised if anyone actually lost anything with Plat Express (but there is always one to prove a rule ) because the systems are in place. If it gets lost - you can find exactly who was the last person and find out why. malachii
If only it were so ... I'm afraid all the good things you've had to say about Platinum Express have ALL been contradicted in previous threads on the topic.
This is my personal view also (ie seller's risk), but as I said before in discussions with a couple of other stackers, they agree with Ausstacker that it's the buyer's risk. If it were a big transaction, a savvie person would clarify who carries the risk if the parcel is lost before confirming the deal.
Ok so once someone has broken into my Paypal account which links to my Australian Bank Account, they then have to hack into that Banks system to find all correspondence goes to my PO Box as well. I suppose the Gov't could take a peak but they can do that with anyone, someone spends a lot of cash and has no records would be just as interesting for them to search out. Or am I missing something here. Please elaborate on this high risk so we can all be aware ?
something like, "I am now Austacker in eBay and PayPal. " identity theft is real, so with this link and info another person for some reasons use your identity as their own, then apply housing and land etc, then cc and then passport. sure there must be insider assisting that sort of things. and worst is this kind of information usually got compromised.
