Pikey I had considered inviting a specialised SMSF accountant and solicitor to come along for futre meeting but I like your idea too. I think the first meeting will be a bit of a feeler and we can thrash about ideas and concerns and see if we can get them sorted at the next round with industry experts advising us?

XB and I will announce the first date and venue next week.

Cheers for all the interest this could be a very informative group me thinks :D

Get as many firms as possible. It can only benifit us in the end.

My thoughts precisely. It would be interesting to see a range of SMSF products on offer. I know the major banks look at you as if you've handed them a stick of dynamite when you ask about SMSF. Try it, its hilarious.

Yea I had had that thought - the first meeting will be more of a sounding out as to what sort of things we want, how often to meet etc etc... Once we're up and away I had thought of seeing if we could get some "guest speakers"

Edit - oops I should have read above - hiho had pretty much said this :)

I like the idea of getting some industry insiders along to the meeting, they can sponsor the refreshments!

We can also get a decent discount out of them on the night but eSuperfund looks pretty good anyway.

I think that with some advice on set up and some co-ordinated group buys we could make the idea pay off in numerous ways. Group buy on some safes?

Do people interest in the SETUP only? or SETUP + ADMIN?? I personally only interested in setting it up, coz I will keep my super investment simple, I can do my own accounting.

Set-up, Admin and compliance for me, I haven't got the time to keep up with all the latest government u-turns and moving the goal posts.

    +1.

Yup I have outsourced all of the admin to esuperfund, I just make the investment decisions.

There are advantages and disadvantages in doing this.

I'm in for a complete package like most, unless I can get a decent accountant who'll do it for me for a good price.

To be honest, from what I've seen, I don't mind paying the 600 dabs a year anyway for complete financial control of what would only be losing value in a fund my employer 'reccomends'. I think I'll take metals thanks, they can be stored in the reserve, right next to my other little stack of goodies :)

In fact, lets set a meeting day... Shall we say a weekend, provisionally the 10th March?

I've no idea of my work schedule yet, however I'm game for getting everyone together, even if it just means we get our ideas on the table of what we need to sort out/info to gather.

Okay, so EOI's declared so far looks like:

    hiho
    XB
    rbaggio
    Jislizard
    skipau
    asdfghjkl32
    nedsnotdead
    registered nutcase
    SilverSurfer77
    Lovey80
    White-Metal-Man
    CK (if the Kookaburra flies)

    Plus whoever else is in.

I'll look at a quiet meeting location for us, if there's more interest, jump on ASAP.

Are we good with a weekend, say the 10th/11th March?

Apologies if I'm stepping on toes here, can you tell I'm sat in the airport bored shitless?!

Hey Dr of all things rhythmic - I had only PM'd hiho to be on the list before and not posted here - I've had an SMSF for many years but would always be happy to hear the latest, so count me in for a drive down from the Sunny Coast.

As someone said, the regs on these entities get played with a lot by the PTB so it pays to stay up to date. Auditor opinions vary too ... So as with anything it also pays to be your own best expert and not be pushed around ;)

10 & 11 March or any weekend is fine by me ... Then again, any weekday is fine too haha!

I am going to be in Hendra on the evening of the 10th, but other than that, count me in for any time at the weekend, prefer a lunchtime meeting but really not fussed, I can be pretty flexible.

Hmmmm, not sure what the hooter is for, if you can't draw attention to yourself by folding in half and wearing a bowler hat, I hardly think a horn is going to make much of a difference.

Sad to say I can't even touch my toes!
