You're only looking at the technology from the crypto-currency angle alone, it is the blockchain technology, of which cryptos are the records of transactions on a blockchain that has the value. Cryptos are the "receipts", the proof of transactions. Just because you can't get your head around the idea they can be traded and have value doesn't mean they're worthless. And you need to let go of the concept of intrinsic value, it doesn't exist. All value is assigned by those that use a good, without a user there is no value.
What does blockchain have to do with the value of crypto currency, since Blockchain technology is free? Isn’t that like saying plastic in general will go up in value, if USA start using plastic money or that paper is valuable because US dollar is currently printed on it.
That's like saying because everyone uses internet protocol or cryptography you will make money Good luck with that. It's an idea that you can integrate, you can't own it. Also blockchain is not a new idea, hash trees have been around for over 30 years. The only way you can make money is if people believe it has value in the sense everyone will use it. The tech (what's available atm) is old and worthless.
The way I think of it is that as it is a decentralised ledger it relies on a community of individuals to hold the records rather than a centralised authority. In order to achieve this the owners of the receipts of the transactions are incentivised to preserve them. You don't own anything, a crypto wallet is empty. Well you understand the tech better than I do, but there's a lot of effort going in to using this old and worthless tech in real world applications.
Only because anything with the word blockchain in it would make you money (well not as much anymore). Just like how in the late 90's anything with the word internet would make money and therefore everyone thought every project had "real world application". But now we know 99.9% of it was garbage. Now that's not to say in the future there won't be some great crypto blockchain, but atm it's outdated and clunky and the only thing it had going for it was the idea that everyone will use it. The buy cryptos, crash the bank mentality. Kind of like the buy silver, crash J.P. Morgan slogan. So in short anything that's in an irrational bull market will have people putting a lot of effort into it, but that doesn't mean it's good. Because the crypto assets are the tokenised representations of authorised transactions that occur within a blockchain. The unalterable proof that an event occured. This unalterable proof of an event or transaction is decentralised ie distributed to a vast number of market players rather than is currently the norm in mainstream centralised systems ie held by a single authority. Traditionally, these assets both have value assigned to them in order to encourage players to process transactions AND because they are proof of those transactions. You could say that they are a tradeable receipt, much in the same way that early fiat currencies were tradeable tokens of gold and that market players are rewarded for printing these receipts, as opposed to governments that are rewarded for printing fiat. The rise of security tokens also offers a third manner in which value is assigned ie selling the rights to a share in any future commercial success, in other words, profits. The blockchain is just the system in which these tokenised receipts of authorised transactions have been designed to operate. Don’t get me wrong, I made good profit when I sold out of crypto and I’ll buy again if I see a chance for profit. The thing is crypto, gold, shares, cash or properties are just assets. There is a reason all goes up or down but specifically both crypto and properties is in a bubble, crypto is deflating, and Property sectors is on its way down. Much like Sydney properties I sold all of them few years back, many people I knew thought I was crazy and even now it’s not certain property will come down 20 to 30%, but it’s not going up in value for many years. However I am looking at buying distressed apartments in Perth’s. FYI Blockchain is a good technology but has zilch to do with value
Reread my post, it explains why the coins have value. And of course the technology has something to do with the value otherwise there’d be no point implementing it. Blockchains have value because they are programs in the same way Microsoft Word has value and diets have value. People value them because they are tools to achieve potential outcomes, like tractors, priests and prostitutes. Not all diets work, not all word processing programs work equally, not all blockchain based ventures are profitable and not all priests are made out to be what they claim. Edit to add: and this so-called bubble may be well on it’s way to inflating again. It has to. If you exchange stuff for them then they are valuable.
Truth be told I didn’t read your full post. My point of view is that all cypto is over priced but that wouldn’t stop me making a profit from it.
