Hi Guys, have you noticed the new African series - Gabon African ounce? Indeed beautiful coins in antique finish version. First coin is an elephant and the second coin is a rhinoceros. If somebody from you has seen them - what do you think?
coin is pretty appealing but ... about 100 euros for elephant is too much for me ... i'd buy it for half the price though haven't seen rhino ... any pictures?
Hi mate, go to e-bay and type in antique finish. You'll find the rhino there. It's a very interesting series. I have my set and it's solely for me - no selling. One set is prepared for selling when the "time comes".
Hi silverfever, I made a mistake. The series is called African ounce. The first one is from Gabon, the second Congo, the third...? The motiv for the third is not known yet and the issuing country also not. My rhinos are also on the way. Can't wait to get them!
I broke my internet connection by looking for Gabon Rhino which happens to be Congo Rhino )))) anyway, found Congo Rhino ... it looks better than elephant
Hi SS Does anybody know how many coins in total this series will have? You are right guys, these coins are not cheap...but anyway I bought both coins Elephant and Rhinoceros (still waiting for Rhino). Here is Elephant video. I don't have any business of showing this coin (my youtube channel is not monetized). You have seen pictures of this coin why not a video... Enjoy!! Yap, When you see them "live", then you see this coins are really amazing. I have my coins and I won't give them away. I suppose there will 6-7 or maybe even more. I guess there will be a lion, cheetah, hypo, giraffe. That's my assumption if the series is called African ounce. Let's wait and we'll see.
These coins are made in Germany and being sold out of Germany. Same as many others: Somalia, Rwanda, Armenia, Mongolia etc. I reckon Germans are just looking for countries that never gonna mint their own silver and doing the deals. For example Armenian Noah's Arks are not sold in Armenia at all. It's actually easier to buy them in Australia than Armenia. I bet Congo citizens never even heard of these coins. Also Rwandan silver coins are called: "African ounce". It's actually written on them. I hold one in my hand at the moment. I was even thinking how big is the difference between "African" and Troy ounce? I think if this name is going to be used for more than one series of coins it could create a confusion.
Which mint makes these coins in Germany? I still think they are expensive, but I am just curios Alex.
Yeah i'd like to know which Mint these are from as well. Also is this even a series? Is there going to be a 2013 release? There was 2 from 2012 although from 2 separate countries. Doesn't seem to be much info on these coins at all.
Hi zman, yap, that's a series. The next coin will be released in approx. 3-4 months. The motiv and the country are not known yet. But is definitelly a series. Mintage is 2000 per issue.
Hi bor-che, where can we buy these coins at a reasonable price, you know who is the first source for this series? Thanks.
Hi Alex, actually I bought the Gabon Elephant from an official dealer in Slovenia and the Rhino from a colleague. Actually you must search for them a lot. There are only 2000 pieces each and the prices have started to rise. I pad for my sets 235 each. But I think they are worth it. The same opinion for Rwanda. Maybe you should try at e-bay.
hmm... 235,00 eur each is way too much, I pass. I am saving to buy a second "ARGALI - Mongolia" at the moment, a coin that I feel will double its current market price very soon Alex.
