Taxing fat is insane. Fat is more important to the body than carbs. I don't mind if they tax industrial junk fats like margarine and canola and soy oil, but if they tax healthy fats like butter, coconuts, olive oil, animal fat and avocados they will increase the cancer and obesity and heart disease rate because the low income bracket will eat even less healthy fats and even more cheaper junk trans fat garbage.
If we just taxed the stupidity of political decisions world wide we would have more than enough money to fund the installation of my much needed Jacuzzi,Pool bar,Barmaid and stand by Chef on a remote island up for sale called Australia. REDBACK
I just received notification by my power supplier of a price increase of around 25%. Coincidentally, this comes in the same week I completed my tax return, which came with no carbon tax compensation, and deductions rejected due to an education refund which was reneged half way through the tax year. So, in the spirit of the intended "user pays system", I consider myself expunged from any environmental moral obligations. My duties have been paid. Cash is the form the Govt wants my payment in, so it will be. This is fair, and inline with other systems such as Medicare, which is widely considered a "right" to access any medical services you wish, and whereby no one bats an eyelid if it is used and abused. Before anyone considers climbing the moral highground and giving me a spray, chances are you are in the 98% of the population who did recieve compensation, and I may argue that since I effectively subsidised your carbon use, I have a stake in it as well. This is about the only positive I can take from such a ludicrous policy. So to celebrate my release (and relief) from this burden of the constant concious effort expected of me to consider all thing environmental, I today lopped a tree on my property and watched it burn. Not only was it quite fun, it was a very convenient form of disposal which I intend extending to the disposal of other things. To take a leaf from Spannermonkey's book of phrases: My environmental meter now reads:
Excellent, I'm glad I'm not the only one then. I went to dump some rubbish at the local tip today and saw the price had increased dramatically, so I turned around and went home and burned it all, it was free and it's ok cause Julia will fix the environmental damage I did with the cash I will give her with this stupid tax. Now I'm happy no more tip fees and a license to burn plastic
+1  Fantastic. Thanks for the tip. No more dumpage fees for me either. Feels quite therapeutic, doesn't it.
I just use my neighbours bins. Sometimes living in a block of units, surrounded by other units has advantages
And We can keep our relatively clean burning expensive carbon taxed coal in the ground and stop selling it to China so that they can burn dirty coal instead. What a win for the environment and for our economy!
Not being funny, it would actually reduce pollution except for those poor people who live on freeways who would have to deal with lead in their diets unlike now when it's just a cocktail of other toxins we all have to cope with.
Guys, I wanna check electricity rates with you please I received a notice from AGL recently OLD RATE (gst inclusive) Peak first 7,000 kwh/annum $22.66 Peak balance $32.01 NEW RATE (gst inclusive) Peak first 4,000 kwh/annum $27.42 Peak next 4,000 kwh/annum $28.63 Peak balance $38.51 is this for real? the increase is nearly 24%.......wtf :| how about other providers? similar increase?
I feel like I have been milking here so badly .... work like a horse, sleep like in a dog kernel and eat like a pig.
Yes, I will do this very soon.....no choice. but again...with the solar system, I am skeptical that the gov may provide you with all the sweets candy you are hoping for in the beginning, then down the track once everyone has their own solar, the rebate is taken back.
I thought this too, until I read that 1 in 5 households in QLD will have a solar power system on their roof, if everyone who applied to Energex goes ahead and gets it installed. That's a pretty large voting block.
What I find interesting is that the government should choose to limit the amount of solar power you can generate using solar, and not just limit the amount of roof area you can cover or how the panels must be placed. (Pic is a bit unattractive I must say). http://theage.domain.com.au/green/generating-interest-and-plenty-of-power-20120821-24kcs.html Source: The Age
