PF70 keeps going down on ebay. I won one for $198. Is that a good buy?

This medal in a 69 could be breaking the $100 barrier soon. It has gone as low as $103.00

    I thought i was getting a good deal when i got my 69 in the $130s. :(

No worries. When you hear Panda America hypes up the coin show in 2013 and selling yet another official panda medal, sell your 2012 medal if you don't plan on holding it.

I am confident in their marketing hoo-haa, so you will be fine.

Perhaps you may even regret for not buying more at current price when they fire up their marketing machine.

I'm not... if they were THAT good this medal would be @ $200+ not ~$100 in PF69.

I and many others probably buy MC medals/coins based on the following criterion (or some of them):
    - Mintage
    - Design
    - Wow factor
    - Issue Price
    - Cultural significance

Marketing is very very very very low on my list of stuff to consider when buying coins. In fact, it probably gives me a negative signal if I get bombarded with marketing material.

    YMMV.

They are in the business of selling the coin show, and the panda medal as a byproduct. Just look at the hype they created during the coin show and they are done with that now.

Hence the price gone down to ~$100.

But so many were buying when they hoo-haa about the first official medal in 15 years. People don't say, let's wait until the hoo-haa is over. They play the greed and fear factor and they win, both the coin show and the medal business. Who care what the current price is? Certainly not Panda America.

Come 2013, it is another fresh start.

Marketing comes in many form, some direct, some indirect. Just ask, how many people buy based on the LBC investment list? Isn't LBC investment list one kind of marketing material, and a reasonably influencing one?

even though i purchased a 1 oz and 5 oz at the show i decided if the prices come down from the release price in PF-69 i would buy more.

I have been watching these for the past few weeks and i waited until there were like 6-7 in PF-69 being sold at the same time. I purchased one for $113- with free shipping.

Any of these that i can buy under $115 i will continue to do. I really like the design and worst case i hold on to them and they appreciate over the next 10 years. Best case after the market absorbs the 10,000 then the price goes up and i unload a couple of them.

I guess i could also give one to each of my brothers and my Dad.

Couldn't agree more. Sounds an awful lot like PM Marketing and we all know where that is heading ATM...

I think when mcm finished with the flood. The prices in a few years go for more than 200 in pf69. But i think now are better examples to buy for cheap in ms69 with more earnings potential. But i need one for my collection. And dont like to saw the same happen with the singapore if i pay the release price plus grading fees.

^ Congrats Thor122, I also picked one up for 111.

For those who bought at a higher price, I'm sure once this glut of coins has been pushed out prices will increase again... it's a nice looking medal.
