I would like to see 4 coin ASE proof set, similar to the Gold and Platinum ones, but with the coins being 5oz, 2oz, 1oz, .5 oz.
I'm with you on that Gat. I think it will be a long time (if ever) till we see a 5 oz Eagle but I'd sure welcome it. That day may never come though....I mean the U.S. Mint has only had 30 years to do that. As you know, the first and only 5 oz silver coin the U.S. Mint has ever produced is the America The Beautiful series of coins. Because I like that size of coin, because it's the first ever 5 oz coin for the U.S., because the subject matter depicted (America's National Parks) is wholly worthwhile, and because the designs are generally very well executed, I am a fan of ATB series. Very little else that the U.S. Mint produces is exciting or worth much of my attention. If I want 1 oz of silver bullion in 2016, there's always less expensive alternatives to the 2016 ASE like any 1 oz silver blob. All ordinary flat discs or rectangles of silver produced by the tens of millions are more or less the same in my book in terms of their value. I don't see a good reason to pay a premium just because it has a $1 or $5 nominal value stamped on it. .
As to your request, Gatito, of a 5 oz "fantasy" round / coin, here's one that comes to mind at the moment: 2015 Death Dealer: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-OZ-SILVER...055433?hash=item43e5134a09:g:RUYAAOSwgQ9V04oo It's not easy to see (virtually impossible with most angles) in most photos of this beautiful fantasy round, but the background field (behind the device "Death Dealer") on the obverse of this round has very cool sculpted relief. Also, the first year of this 5 oz silver Death Dealer round had a different design reverse than the 2015 issue. Here's the 2014 issue: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-OZ-SILVER...LER-ART-LEGEND-1-OF-2015-MINTED-/291506093356 .
IMO, quite a few of the ATB designs are a bit cheesy.. However: When they do one right, it really is pretty awesome! And for the longest time I didn't care for the Washington obverse.. Until it hit me: Dude, a *giant* quarter! Kinda trippy, heh. All about tweaking one's perception sometimes..
Perception is almost everything. The worst ATB design of any year IMHO is the 2015 Homestead. Most of the designs thus far I like and so I'm pleased collecting this series. I don't mind a couple of issues where the design is sub par. I think the more important thing is that this series represents a first (and maybe only) for the U.S. Mint in terms of bigger than 1 oz size. .
I wouldn't pay a penny over spot for that dull, poorly designed, fugly, drab, flat disc Hercules round. .
A very nice option for LOW PREMIUM larger silver rounds back when they first came out, that also qualified orders for free shipping at the time. With the OVERPRICED 2 oz rounds selling so well at Provident, I wonder if they will put out another series of reasonably priced 1 oz rounds similar to the Zombucks or Hercules anytime soon...
I saw it but thought it was too obvious to blatantly point out. It was also one of the reasons I'd written "poorly designed". I'm not into fellatio promoting on my silver and I doubt anyone else in their right mind would be either. .
Should I be surprised that you can give no sound explanation or argument (like I did) for why you feel that way? If someone were to give me that fugly piece of garbage Hercules round (because I wouldn't buy one ever) I'd just as soon have it melted down and in short time it would be much nicer looking than the male fellatio-promoting garbage it previously was. .
Oh dear . . . it looks as though the thread has veered off into the gutter. Hopefully no impressionable minds are browsing through it. This should get it back on track...
Almost 30 years old, this beautiful 5 oz silver medal symbolically represents a rare and very welcomed joining of two giant nations united in a noble cause...... 1987 Russia - USA In Defence of Nature 5 oz Proof Silver Medal reverse 1987 Russia - USA In Defence of Nature 5 oz Proof Silver Medal obverse .
Bit of a stretch, but do these count? Camera & lighting don't do them justice. Great "fondle" pieces, IMO.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQT9ctQwPJw
Yeah, they're not going to win me over, at this rate. Not a particularly warm reception, per the comment section.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLgqnokj3tI
It's interesting to note that provident currently has over 800 of the Grand Canyon rounds for sale. Weren't they previously "discontinued"? I don't like the obverse on the landmark series, because the great lakes region of the "map" was poorly designed.
Guessing Provident minted a bunch ahead of time, expecting the demand to be similar to that of the Privateer.. which didn't materialize.
More likely they buy back silver. The Grand Canyon rounds were unavailable for purchase for a while if my memory serves me correctly (I used to check the the availability of the 2 oz high relief rounds regularly). .
