I agree IF the same machine that does work for Tiffany and Pena is used in this instance. If not, no way the same level of detail will show up. That's my guess and bet. And for a 69.00/89.00 coin, I'm doubtbul that the same proceess used on the latter coins will be used on this one. Just say'n. But time will tell. However, I'm not willing to roll the dice until I see them. I know, it will be too late, and that's fine by me. I'm crazy, but not nuts :D

I also doubt that the ArtCam technology will be used for this coin...there'd be no need. It's not in the same class as a Pena Palace or Mineral Art coins. But there may be other lesser technology that uses machines that might be used...I'm not an expert in these things so I'm not certain. Or maybe, the folks who have put the money behind producing this coin found a sculptor who is qualified to make precision sculpts?

    Does that really matter?

Odds are that's what happened. The artist lives in Oregon; I recall son-montuno is in Illinois. About a couple thousand miles apart.

I think sales of the BU will be steady enough, but still erratic. Seems like the initial surge is over.

Though since last count, 5 more were sold via eBay, and 10 more at FCC.

It's tricky, because these are not very widely known. Not everybody visits every forum, for example. So if it makes an appearance at another forum, other potential buyers would be exposed to it -- and you might get a new smaller surge. Sames goes for a stacker YouTube video.

Seems like the higher-ups at Modern Coin Mart are personally interested in it. I wouldn't be surprised if they pick up a bunch for retail sales. If so, I'm sure they'd get gobbled up pretty quickly.

No proofs listed/sold in the last 15 hours.

No not really, I just feel like Scooby Doo and the gang trying to unravel the mystery around this $750 sketch we have all purchased  Nothing better to do while we wait a month for the coins to arrive.

    Nah, I hear you.

I'm sure at least some of this info -- and possibly more -- might be shared via either of the 2 new websites, and/or some sort of interview with those involved.

In the meantime, continue to dig away!

Sadly no error, it has been confirmed that price is what they are selling the proofs for.

Anyone know if this coin was minted in the USA or overseas somewhere?

Also if they went 2D on the dies, the strike on this coin is going to look nothing like that sketch.

We can only hope natsmezz...if not, they'll be a lot of upset customers. LOL. Not us early birds though...we'll just dump the lot, and get our money back. But for those paying, 130, 140, 190, 200, 300, 750...ouch. Those guys at SM mint better be working around the clock to produce something almost identical to the sketch, or they better run for the hills.

I've been thinking about this & doing some poking around.. :D

Privately-minted in the US, custom design, low-mintage, with etched serial # on the rim?

    I've got that.

Something that son-montuno might already be familar with?

Yep, his eBay store carries them.

Anybody familar with the 2014 reddit Silverbug Community "Ariana" round..?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-SILVER...Like-Bullion-Round-USA-Only-10K-/191218452554

(Not very good photos representative of the round, IMO. Nicer in person.)

Does the mint who made these also make rounds in silver & copper, which apparently son-montuno will be coming out with soon?

    Yep..

    http://namint.com/catalog

It's just a guess, and I could easily be wrong.

But I also think it's a pretty decent guess.

BTW, I'd have to pull the Silverbug "Ariana" round out of storage to double-check, but I recall it being pretty nicely done.

He did mention in email to me the other day that they will be coming out with more product, but without the govt. backing. It will be round. I won't be interested be they awesome, sketched to perfection, and amazing...no way, jose. I see enough of that stuff from Duane, Provident Metals...never been a big believer in that stuff...low mintage or not...I'll pass. This lunar goat with Ghana...I'll take it.

I pick up one or two of those types every now & then, if it strikes me a certain way & is decent quality. Definitely has a (small) spot in my collection. They're kind of fun & unique.

Before all this Ghana stuff, I've considered a few other rounds from that catalog, which I wasn't even aware that they were from the same mint. I still might go for a couple.

As for son-montuno's future Ag rounds, I'll keep an open mind & consider them as they become available.

Like I said, it's just a guess. I have no idea how many other mints that are out there who would / could produce something like this.

    EDIT: Rounds, not coins. :)

I wasn't referring to the proof version. "satin/BU version" implicitly refers to the bullion or Brilliant Uncirculated version, not the proof version.
