Copper, the next PM ?

With the Copper futures trading at $5.90/pound ( I believe that is just short of $10,000/ton ) is Copper soon to become the next Precious Metal ? From what I can find this is ATH for Copper. Soon copper lines & pipe will be disappearing & turning up at the scrap dealers with large amounts of $ changing hands.

In a Bizarre twist though, Glencore ( an international mining giant ) is telling the AUS Gov that if it doesn't receive Gov help it will close 2 mines & it's smelter in Mt Isa ( estimates put total direct & indirect job losses at potentially 17,500 jobs ). Glencore said it will loose $Billions of $ over the coming years without assistance from the Gov.

Mmm, what would cause copper mines & a copper smelter to be closed with the price of copper at ATH's ? Energy ! The AUS Gov has so screwed up the AUS energy market pricing that Glencore ( that has numerous profitable mines & smelter operation all around the world ) can't turn a profit on AUS copper because Energy Prices are so high.

AUS is around #4 Ranking in the LNG Export market. How can the worlds #4 producer of LNG ( now AUS #1 energy product ) so screw up the Energy market that AUS copper isn't profitable when it's selling at ATH ? Ask Labour & Albanese how this happened & u get shit like, global warming, Ukraine war, middle east conflicts, etc. Just utter BullShit. It's Labour Green/Renewable Energy policies that are screwing AUS businesses & the AUS public. It's a direct result of Labour's energy policies

But copper is so bulky to stack that it takes a ton to be equivalent to the 2 oz of Gold that I can slip into that little money pocket of my jeans. So copper still has a way to go before becoming a " Precious ".

Interesting discussion. Search copper there are threads going way back.

That said, I have a kilo copper bar on my desk. It's a cool talk piece.

Kilo copper Bar, that's way cool mate

Good talking piece, handy paper weight & if someone is a hassle, just pick up that Bar, wave it in their face & say " now what's this BullShit u are trying to put over me "

Wow, very nice Bars of copper. What's the weight of that big 1 ? Copper ( well I think ) is actually a fantastic metal. It has so many useful properties. When alloying it with other metals it produces so many other useful properties.

Probably why it's 1 of the most commonly used metal on the Planet. Iron/Steel by far #1 because of strength & structural use, but copper is still an amazing metal, that to me doesn't get the attention it deserves. It sit's quietly in the background, doing it many numerous task, but is much under appreciated I think.

Net zero refers to the economy, not emissions.

6 of 1 1/2 a dozen of the other.

The point being - renewable/net zero/ green energy/ climate change/ etc, if fucking up the AUS economy & it's ur children & grand children that are going to pay a VERY HEAVY price in the " Green Experiment "

1 thing I point out to those of the climate/carbon death hysteria.

Look at actual farming. They call them " Green Houses " for a reason. The cover a crop to increase the heat - warming - Then a lot of them will inject " Carbon Dioxide " directly into their Green House. U know why they do that ?

It's because the extra CARBON in the carbon dioxide increases the amount of CARBON available to the plants & the growth is much more profuse. Doesn't that intuitively tell u something ? The excess CARBON promotes growth. It doesn't kill the plants. The Plants Thrive on extra CARBON.

Yet this stupid world is trying, & spending $Billion if not into the $TRILLIONS, to try & reduce the amount of CARBON.

Shit this simple. It's not CARBON that's the problem, it's fucking " POLUTION " that's the problem.

It's the Bureaucrat's that are killing us. Eg, a bureaucrat get's a memo - some people have died because of Bee stings, solve this problem - Bureaucrat sends a memo to the works Dept - Bee's are a problem, kill all the bee's - a few months later said bureaucrat notices that there is no Honey on the shelves of the supermarket. Bureaucrat checks around, mmm, no honey anywhere. Bureaucrat send a memo to the production dept. There is a lack of Honey on the supermarket shelves. Immediately increase the production of Honey - Bureaucrat, problem solved.

Do u SEE where the real problem is ?

Wow, the ignorance is strong in this one.

Your connecting a greenhouse for plants and the greenhouse effect is really stupid.
The plant greenhouse is a minuscule controlled environment for the benefit of those plants alone with no effect on the external environment. , the greenhouse effect of warming planet is catastrophic for this entire world including the animals , oceans etc.
Just look at the new effects of what is happening in the oceans off SA this year.
Global warming is fact. Buffoons like yourself are the issue.

So what's ur incontrovertible proof that the algal bloom of SA is a direct result of " Global Warming "

I mean hard Scientific Data that " proves " Global warming " caused the algal bloom of SA.

Alga Blooms are a very common occurrence across the world in fresh & salt water.

What's ur " proof " that this bloom was caused by " Global warming " ?

Ahh, greenhouse gas zealots. Carbon makes up 0.04% of the earths atmosphere yet u zealots assign to it the death of life on earth. The largest " greenhouse gas " is water vapor. Yet NONE of the so called " Climate Change Models " has any accounting for water vapor.

A direct quote from a scientific journal -

Over 99% of the atmospheric moisture is in the form of water vapor, and this vapor is the principal source of the atmospheric energy that drives the development of weather systems on short time scales and influences the climate on longer time scales.

Water vapor is a critical component of Earth's climate systems. It is the Earth's primary greenhouse gas, trapping more heat than carbon dioxide. Movement of water vapor, and its associated latent heat of vaporization, is also responsible for about 50% of the transport of heat from the tropics to the poles. The movement of water vapor is also important for determining the amount of precipitation a region receives.
.
Yet no accounting of " water vapor " in climate warming models. Mmm, very strange about that. The last " Ice Age" ended only 15 -12,000 years ago. Yet u think the world is going to die tomorrow from " Climate Change " Fuck, the climate always changes.

Animals & humans have adapted to " Climate Change " in the past & will have to adapt to " Climate change " in the future. It's called " Evolution " the world is not static. Adapt or die.

Science doesn't prove anything conclusively, it just provides a messy probabilistic outcome based upon known data and observable phenomena.

There's no proof that the outbreak is related to global warming just as there is no proof that it is not a cause of the same.

It's a fact though that such spicy and polite debate injects fresh air into tired online platforms.

Carry on. ;)

Sure, debate is always a good thing.

Wow, what a clown you are.
Water vapour is not the initial driver of warming but once it commence it creates a positive feedback loop. The warmer we get, the more evaporation which means the trapping of more heat and on and on.
Look here is a short detail put out by NASA summing up the reality of global warming. Unlike you they offer their references for the science. The changes now are “unprecedented”.
Evolution could also mean the extinction of animals with us being one of them. Great to have to adapt to . o_O

Mmm, really can't fathom these young cry babies about " climate change catastrophe ".

Climate change is a Natural Phenomenon.

U live with it & adapt.

The climate has been changing since Moses was knee high to a grasshopper, LOL.

Build ur house on an " Ancient Flood Plain " Guess what happens ? 1 Day the fucking plain floods.

But, but, but it hasn't flooded in living memory.

Yeah, but it's still a " Flood Plain " idiot.

The great Lakes of America were formed by " Glacial Erosion ". Mmm, so I guess there were Glaciers there at some point in time.

There aren't Glaciers there at the moment, so I guess, the " climate has changed " like it always does.

Yes, the " climate " does change.

Here in the Rockies at 10,000 ft we have fossils of swamp critters from sea level, sharks and huge stumps of giant redwoods.

Weve had about 4 major extinction level events here in this area from volcanic activity to meteor impacts and the world keeps turning.
The only constant to the climate is change.

I also love the copper.
Been saving all my old copper cents and nickels from the last decade or so and I've got quite a collection now.
Its crazy how much pocket change I accumulate by the end of the week working on the road but its always a fun treasure hunt for the weekend!

When silver gets too expensive I think electronics companies are going to start using more copper to save money. Or at least, they are going to find ways of using less silver in electronics. Already gold is reduced to a fine coating on top of copper and the gold layer keeps getting thinner. Copper may have a bigger role to play in the future.

I am happy to stack copper in plumbing coils but that is about the only way. It takes up too much space and it oxidises and is generally a hassle to store. Also the minted rounds have very high premiums and tend to discolour, pick up finger prints etc.

My entire life I have grown up being told that we are going to run out of coal any day now, sea levels are rising and we are going to be underwate any day now, the hole in the ozone layer is going to fry us all any day now etc. That may be true, but that doesn't mean that many people are not profiting off fear-mongering and grifting. The media have scared so many people that it has affected their mental health, that is the real damage from climate change.

U must be around my age as I grew up hearing that exact same shit, lol.

The reason behind the fear-mongering is to do with the survival mechanisms built into us. Supposedly it goes like this. Someone points to a tree in the distance & says " that tree has some fruit growing, that's ready to eat ". Someone else points in a different direction to a tree in the distance & says " that tree has a lion sleeping in the branches that will eat you ".

Our species quickly learnt that the tree with lion in it is a lot more relevant that the tree with the fruit, even if we are hungry, because I won't starve without some fruit today, but I will die immediately from a lion attack.

So bad/dangerous/distressing news is about 3 X more relevant to us than good/happy news. This is well known. That is why the media fear-mongering is so prevalent. Media sells on the fear/bad/dangerous/distressing. But that constant stream of fear/anger/distress does affect mental health if u get caught up in the constant stream of it.
