In the last 2 weeks I’ve had 2 parcels rejected coming from Tasmania to QLD and am on a 3rd attempt to get a parcel out to the USA. keep stopping it as Dangerous goods / with a note stating bullion and as such returned to sender. ( I will also mention the parcels have never been opened so if new x-ray machines then they must be able to determine what metal it is in the parcel. Shape sure but if its a collectable Performance award Like the Old National Bank service awards 250g, 500g & 1kg. But they still know its silver / Bullion rather than a collectable.


Anyone having trouble as well or have a different way to ship bullion out of AUS?

I have had the same problem with Tassie.
From Hobart to Vic seems fine but from Launceston it is shit.
There is no consistency, all the parcels coming to me have been express.
Several got rejected by Qantas.
The Reject sticker read Fail xray screening.
Some parcels were returned to sender, others were delivered 10 days later by snail mail and several got through by express.
Its a mystery to me.
 
I hear you mate, 1 of the 2 from TAS to QLD had the rejection page stuck to it but following the tracking 1 went to VIC then back to TAS Then back Brisbane and then back to VIC and then a few days later I had it delivered to me. the 2nd Parcel similarly went to VIC then back to TAS and then to Brisbane. Both parcels were in Brisbane at the same time but 1 kept going and I received it and the 1st was the one that went back to VIC but then back to me finally in QLD. 4 weeks almost in total and that was express.

A while ago I bought a Silver Bar from Ainslie that was shipped from Brisbane to Melbourne. On the back of the package it
had the Sender as a Geo Company. Whenever I send Metal, I now put on the back as a sender, a ficticious metal manufacturerer.
Still include my correct Mobile and PO Box. Worth a thought.
 
didnt know BU is now considered as 'prohibited'...used to be 'senders own risk' as not covered by auspost...

ok, so only when destined for overseas…hmm..this must be new…then again I hvnt done any overseas lately…so, I’ve been out-dated..
 
I know of bullion dealers using "Toll", for their transport needs.
Could be an issue though, if receiving to P.O. boxes !

DHL have similar services, and probably similar hassles.

I don’t think most Postal workers have a clue.

I just had 1 x 1kg ABC vintage ingots shipped to me from Bullion dealer in Brisbane VIA Express post and he said he insured it just to be safe.

It was my understanding if you are a registered Bullion dealer you can ship it and get insurance. Hence Perth Mint ship under $50K with a % of sale then goes towards them insuring it, over $50K it must be delivered by aramid car.

Well that was there rules when I looked into it a few years back.
 
Either way,bullion dealers insure thru lloyds of lond,still not sure how they get away with using auspost ,maybe via individual agreement.if looked into this at some depth.the guidelines have enough disclaimers to be grey areas.not quite definable.legality wise.
 
Don't you folks have private shipping options like DHL, FedEx, etc.? I assume the bullion prohibition is an Auspost specific policy and not a law barring private carriers from handling bullion transport.

I don't think there's any legal reason for private shipping companies to not carry bullion. I reckon the fear of loss just makes it easy for them to decide to say no.
 
We just have to face the harsh reality that no more overseas shipping.It seems most countries changed regulations and tightening the rules. Im sure there will be some packages which will be slip thru but most gets returned and we should be grateful they are not confiscated or seller not getting fined.
 
Years ago when transporting silver bullion from Melbourne to Sydney via Air I was pulled aside in Sydney into an interview room where it was explained to me that they could not distinguish via X-ray the difference between Silver bars and certain types of explosives.They appeared the same.Once unpacked and examined they were satisfied and allowed me to travel on.
That was my experiance and a recount of it, i make no conclusions otherwise as to their logic or reason.
