American Eagle 2019 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin

Super new to the coin collection world but came across this coin through a friend and ended up picking one up the other day. After looking around at other coins this coin is selling all over the place for upwards to $800. Looks like theres only 30,000 but what makes this so special? I heard rumors that there were 1000 that had been autographs? Should I open this and find out? Should I open it and get it graded?

BUT I would ,
Go to a jeweller & get him to melt it down
And make a bracelet or necklace out of it .
And make a video of it to post on youtube :eek:
Then auction it on fleebay :D
 
The coin is special because it is the first time the US Mint has released an encapsulated coin with a serial numbered Certificate of Authenticity. So, I suggest *not* opening the capsule and keeping the CoA in good condition. I believe grading services are offering to encapsulate the CoA.

Also, this is the second time the US Mint has produced an enhanced reverse proof silver eagle. The first time was earlier this year in combination with the Royal Canadian Mint, a silver eagle and silver maple set were released. Minted 110,000, all sold. It may increase in value if an owner of the combination set wants to continue collecting.

Not sure about about signature.
 
Signature is done by the head of us mint David J. Ryder, not sure how many he has signed but usually adds a bit of value to the item. The thing is you can only get your COA encapsulated if you don't open the coin package, this has lead to some people not trusting the coin graders as there is nothing stopping them swapping the COA's.

One thing that has the hype boosted for this coin is that it is the lowest ever minted proof ASE, the now second-lowest sells between 2500-15000 USD so that's why everyone is so excited.

I also was lucky enough to get one of these coins and have no idea what to do with it hahaha

I don't like the look of encapsulated coins done by the grader personally, so I think I will just open mine...
 
Picked mine up from the post office today and following an "instructional " video, managed to open it without any tell tale signs (It's one of the "big" boxes) and it's not a signed one. Now the dilemma is do I get it graded? As there is no NGC/PCGS in Australia, I'll have to send it back to the US and I'll probably use NGC as they are the "cheaper" of the 2 to become a member. All up, it's going to probably cost me over AU$200 so I'm kinda on the fence to if I even need to do it.
 
From what I gather from YT stackers who have the coin, there is little value add with grading. They fetch 1000 USD on eBay today. Also, the AUS market for the coin is significantly smaller than the US, I think your prospective buyers are unlikely to offer the amount spent on grading in addition to the coin 'base price'.

You are a brave man, mine is still in its box... I can almost hear it call to me right now (it is in the smaller box so don't want to risk it) :p

As for grading the COA slabbed coins are selling for $2500USD on eBay, I say you either go all in and get the COA slabbed also or don't bother. I think I may just flip mine boxed so I don't need to make the decision haha...
 
$2500 now for slabbed but that premium will subside after the FOMO hype disappears. I'll hold onto it for a few years, I'm in no rush to get rid of it
 
When you move the coin left and right in your hands, the Eagle side appears to have a 3D effect, it's quite mesmerising lol

If it was signed, I would have put it back in the box and sent it off for grading as I managed to open it from the side without disturbing the packing tape (from watching a youtube video on how to do it) and it's easy to put the box back together with no tell tale signs of opening

Whoops that’s right, you had the big box right? Sorry I just saw what it was selling at auction for and completely forgot about that part of the conversation.
