Gold Pandas

Hard to tell in the photo but the 2001 in the foam capsule is pretty badly stained with red spot. Needs a good clean.
 
I have yet to see a stained one in original OMP. Perhaps removing them is the issue? Regardless I intend to get capsules for these new ones, makes storage much easier.

I wish! Unfortunately they changed from ounce to gram sizing in 2016-2016 and the early years attract a premium that I am unwilling to pay. Makes collecting a useless feat for someone interested only in bullion content. I will have to stick to collecting $200 coins and Perth mint nuggets/kangaroos with far more reasonable prices.

Don't wish-you can make it. Try to read the book: Gold&Silver panda coin Buyer's Guide by Peter Anthony. It can help you understand a lot of thing about panda coins and helps you to make proper judgement in collecting these coins.

I was offered one of those at a fantastic price but resisted buying. Just a little too big for my taste. Beautiful design. Will you keep it sealed or buy it a capsule?
 
Yes stretched the budget as it is a larger coin than i was after but got it here only a bit above spot. Undecided tbh. What would you recommend? I do love looking at the coins so capsule would work better but nervous about cutting the seal!

I did put some of mine in capsules and will put the others into capsules too, but i have a feeling it contributes to the red spotting stains. As a buyer i know i prefer to receive it in original packaging. Its much more reassuring. So i guess it depends if you intend to resell (original packaging) or want to keep and store long term (capsules much easier to store).
 
Yes i agree it is more reassuring, Its strange that red spotting stains occured. Maybe some moisture got in to it at some stage? Usually gold has a resistance as it wont oxidize as at all being 24ct. Have you tried cleaning it?

It has something to do with surface impurities in the minting environment. When they press the face onto the coin, if the die is not clean it can press in metal ions that will eventually stain. I have not tried cleaning it but intend to soon.
 
Be very interested in the before and after if you could post a pic when you do? Fingers crossed its an easy fix!

Will definitely post a thread when I get around to doing it. There's a few videos on YouTube of different methods.

The capsule would work better but think why the Chinese Mint didn't put the coin in capsule in the first place? Do not cut the seal - full stop-you will loose a lot when selling the coin.
