2017 1oz Kookaburra mintage

I was recently going through the Perth Mint mintage numbers of the 1oz Kookaburra and noticed for the first time since 2008 the 2017 was not sell out

As we know the maximum mintage is 500,000 and the declared mintage was 406,265 for the 2017 1oz Kookaburra

I just found that quite interesting compared to previous years and are we losing the appeal of this coin given all the new recent releases from Perth Mint e.g. swan & emu to name a couple

Will now be watching closely for the declared mintage of the 2018
 
bottom-line: they need to stop minting the kooks. 20 plus years is pushing the outer boundaries of being crazy. Stop already. I've stopped buying after 2016.

In term of coins 20+ years is nothing. I love to collect coins with a new design every year. Much prefer the Kook series over the absolutely boring ASE, Phila, Maples and Britannia.

Totally agree with you and have been an avid kook fan for years

I await with interest to see if Perth Mint will issue an interesting coin in 2020 to celebrate 30 years of the Kookaburra something better than they did for the 2015
 
2019 will be the 30th Anniversary and personally believe like you guys have previously mentioned...end the series and start again. Then we can finally put them into a display box. Its going to be one hell of a box, housing 30 coins :)

I've already got mine in a beautiful wooden display box which houses 40 1oz coins, so as long as the series ends by 2030 I'm alright :D

Same case for silver panda which is 35 years. anyone boring on it even the mintage has increased 10,000 to 8,000,000.

Kruggend, libertard and so on are more than 30 years and same design which many still buying.

Many new Perth Mint design attract flippers who intend to flip and hype the market to profit which dragon and phoenix and Swan are typical examples. The price went up sharly during the hype and drop significantly as compare to the peak.

The kookaburra series is without doubt the best Silver coin on the market. I agree the mintage figure of 500,000 is too many. If they were to lower the figure to say 350.000 and still maintain the extra privy marked ones that might be better for all of us. In any case I will never stop collecting the kookaburra`s the change in design each year is the one driving factor for me .

Would have to say I totally concur with you being in my opinion also the best silver coin on the market and I will also continue to collect

Not a big fan of the privy issues sorry

You have made a good choice in selecting the Kookaburra to be part of your collection and long may Perth Mint continue to release these coins

the cage is just too small, if you keep on adding birds each year, they would pick on another
overcrowding will bring in birds flu

Maybe they will just decide to mint another 95,000 of the 2017 1oz silver kook (and whatever other years didn't sell out) in 2028 or whenever the next hot silver market rolls around. :)
