Stop been cheap and invest in a safe, $1500 can get you a 150kg+ safe bolted to the ground and will stop your gold and silver from melting in a fire. $200 can get you a 40kg safe bolted to the ground. If you have more than a couple of ounces, you would want a safe and an alarm installed in the house. No-one is going to try get in to your safe if the alarm is going off and even then, 100% of thieves aren't going to come to your house with anything that can possibly get through thick steel.

    Locking it > Hiding it

    180kg for about $1550

Otherwise, hide it in something that will have no value to a thief, like inside an old photo album ;)

disclaimer: I don't sell safes, that link is googled and I have no affiliation

Can't remember the name but many years ago i saw a British comedy film about a bunch smuggling gold from France to Britain.

They cast a large number of small models of the Eiffel Tower - in Gold!

    The customs waved them through.

I like the "paint it silver" idea best.

Get yourself a bee hive make one of the internal racks a hollow storage space. This was actually done to hide wealth from the Nazis, not my original idea. Not many people are fond of bees and many won't go anywhere near a working hive. The added bonus is the free liquid gold produced. Come to think of it you could sell all your excess honey to finance your next purchase. Not many other safes will help increase your wealth.
