Why are Dragons and Rabbits 25% more then snakes

Can anyone explain to me why I can still get snakes for ~$30 but I cant get Dragons, Rabbits or Mice less then $40, Tigers < $50 and Ox < $65.

I dont really understand why the big jump, snakes and horses are roughtly the same price as Goats...

Did these coins go overseas or something? Just fewer available in Australia?

Free market pricing is a strange beast...

I.e I'm finding it hard to believe snakes will be >$40 next year...but we will see I suppose.
 
with dragons, plenty of stackers paid a hugeeeee premium. no one will sell them at $30.

If you purchased a roll of Dragons for close to 1k ... Would you sell them for around $600 now?

Some folk were utterly traumatised due to the huge variety of dragon coins.

The standard bullion coins.
The first Privy dragon coin (First privy for the lunars series)

The first 5oz Proof (First 5oz proof for the lunars series)
The First 1oz High relief Proof. (First high relief for the lunars series)
The introduction of the 2oz proof coin set (Which instantly made 3 coin sets worthless or a huge depreciation in price)
The 1oz standard proof.
The 1/2oz proof, only released in Europe.
The 1/2oz coloured proof.
The 1oz coloured proof.
The Australia post 1/2oz coloured bullion coin.
The kilo proof
The 1 kilo Gem-eye proof.
The boxed gilded dragon.
The standard gilded dragon.
The flood of ANDA coloured dragons

The nine coin set

The ten coins set.

The 4 coin type set

The coloured 1/2oz red, 1oz red, 2oz red, 5oz red, 10oz red, kilo red.

And...then the arse fell-out of the silver price. down, down, down, down.


It was a no-brainer that folk would be exhausted and they took a breather with regard towards the snake series because there was and still is a lot of anger towards Perth for their "Over-enthusiasm" to push dragon products.
There was a huge loss of faith in the series and of course in the same year that the snake was released Perth then had to contend with their mintage policy and the push to declare older numi and bullion coins to get back some kind of rapport with collectors, stackers and flippers.

Having said that, imo the snake series could be "the sleepers" of the lunar series, especially the 2oz, 5oz and 10ozbullion coins (These were restricted in their minting).

The 1oz coin should do ok in a few years time; the 2oz and 5oz coins are bringing good gains now, in particular the 2oz.

The Snake bullion coins have been declared and no further 1/2oz, 1oz, 2oz, 5oz, or 10oz coins will be minted.

Snakes are unloved in the US too, but they are more expensive than goats. In the US, Tigers are top dog with the Ox second.

ABC were selling heaps at just under $1200 per roll.. i know as i was one fool who purchase two of them.. although i got some at fair prices from Bullion Bouse (around 900) per roll.. id be mad to consider selling them for less.. and i wouldnt.

1. spot price was nearly double compared to horse, snake and goat
2. dragon is most popular, rabbit is older before all the newbs jumped into the market.. and strong hands holding.. ie: demand exceeds supply

common sense and some surface scratching easily answers all questions raised.

After seeing Tom D's picture i think the Snake is the no1 design.. snakes are beautiful for their colours.. without colour its hard to show a beautiful snake..

The Tiger is the most disappointing.. looks so wrong without colour, the stripes have not worked out IMO. ok til you start inspecting it.. but agree its a popular coin, ox is good purely as its hard to get.. europe got the lions share of the allocation (thanks PM -- now they are uber hard to get up in ere)
 
I have not collected any numismatics.

Can someone tell me what they would consider buying now (2015) that does not have high markup over spot that might have numismatic value in the future.

Of course this is all just based on what you have seen previous offerings go for.

2015 1oz kookaburra. Very low premium, 25th anniversary coin and part of an ongoing series. I don't know of any coins that come close, but I would be interested in learning about them.

I agree with dccpa. I miss the boat, as I was out of funds, but you could have picked those up for nearly 18.00 during the 'smash.' damn collectibles sucked up all my cash. STUPID.
 
Hey guys, come on. Dragons were nearly 90. i can remember people screaming for luck getting rolls on 68$ each.
I wonder how many people sell their coins and make their loss real.
 
I love the big snakes. In the 1oz it's not as good looking as the dragon but in the 5oz-1kg it really shines.
 
They are all only "worth" silver buy back price in the end :)

The extra premium is only based on "I have what You want" :)
