Sov vs Lunar s2 measurement how is it possible???

Hi,

I need help to understand this.

1 full Sovereign coin is 7.98 grams of 22 ct gold. Its diameter is 22.05mm & thickness is 1.52mm (source Wikipedia) . so volume of 7.98 grams of 91.67% gold is 33.516 cubic mm.


1/4 lunar series 2 is 7.777 gram of pure gold. Its diameter is 22.60mm & thickness is 2.20 mm (source PerthMint bullion) . so volume of 7.777 grams of 99.99% gold is 49.72 cubic mm.

As per my understanding pure gold is more dense than 22ct.

How can 7.777 gram of pure gold has more volume than 7.98 grams of 22 ct gold??

thickness measured at highest point, perhaps the sov as more depth to the design to allow for greater wear and tear

My understanding is that thickness is measured at the thickest part of the relief.... I think?
A coin is not perfectly flat.
