wondered if it was a good idea to buy 1 fake item to give us all a reality check on whats out there , I think ive seen some vids on guys that bought one just to cut open or do the acid test, or the clad rubbish should we all spend 2 just to see what rubbish is being passed off
maybe it would always remind you to double check all the photos, text, feedback, etc

Yeah then you have those get kicks out of annoying others by recommending people go to their website and link it to a Rick Ashley song.

consider yourself Rick Rolled.

I don't think everyone should buy one, but if you feel like having one and don't mind wasting the cash on it it wouldn't hurt. You would be unfortuantely supporting the seller you bought it from who is peddling the fakes. I think you should just buy silver like normal, if you eventually come a across and spot a fake you have purchased use that as a lesson to be more carefull. If you do all the home tests for silver you should beable to weed out most fakes. Magnet, weight, size, tissue, and ring test.

This is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard. Why buy a counterfeit when I can use that money to buy a real one?

Be wary that bringing fake legal tender coins into Aus (even if it's for something 'legit' such as testing them) might make you Person of Interest for the AFP...

True and also support the person selling the fakes.

Here is an Idea for you! Buy a clad kennedy half dollar, and then buy a 90% silver Kennedy half dollar and observe the difference between the coins. You can do this with an silver and non silver similar coins like Eisenhower dollars. You can run all the same tests and not support the con artists. You wouldnt be buying a fake but would be buying a non silver version of a silver coin, same concept as buying a fake to compare with.

I would like to see legal action against Ebay for facilitating and indeed encouraging (by granting "power seller" status to sellers) fraud and counterfeiting.

People feel they can trust sellers with 10,000+ feedback because they are established and many others have purchased from them. It takes your guard down much less from buying from a person with low reviews. All the ones selling fakes are getting away with it no questions asked because the bad reviews are burried amongst the positive reviews from uniformed buyers only going off trust.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if ebay cracked down on fakes.
