I recently just bought a 50g PAMP gold bar of a fellow stacker and was curious as to why sealed gold bars can develop red spots? Shouldnt the mint take extra precautions in sealing the bar?

EDIT
heres a pic i edited out the serial number for some reason

Well, then it's better to avoid these bars...

PAMP's sealed silver bars have white "milk spots" on them.

How come a prestigious company lacks the skills to wash them before packaging them?

If you want to be certain, you could always chat to your local bullion dealer and see if they'll XRF it for you.

None of my sealed PAMP silver 1ozers have spots last I checked.

It's a "strawberry spot" caused by impurities in the air during the minting process. Places like PAMP also mint other metals in close proximity so the dust (eg copper) gets stamped onto the bar surface and reacts with sulfur and other airborne contaminates.

At least you know it's real :)

Wash them?

Should they use palmolive or omo?

It's a matter of doing a job better.
Preventing that particles can arrive / stay on the blancs before being struck.
If one is able to produce without these flaws, then another should be able too.
