Does any one collect the proof or uncirc 50 cent pieces?
At $8.95 each, do you think they make a harmless investment if you are prepared to bide your time?
I don't know much about them.

hi
I buy each design for 1 piece every year from Ebay, they not worth to much,10 bucks tops, only for personal collection.

8.95, maybe grab 1 piece for fun is fine, but not a good way to purchase a lot :D

I bought a round 50 cents with a flaw , double emu . i think it was called. Is anyone familiar with this and what's it worth?

( I like to have 50 cents in an amount divisible by 3, on account of 3 equalling an ounce, but would be happy to sell this because I figure if the price goes up I'll only need 2 per ounce)

It sounds like a double bar 1966 50c round
they also found their way into circulation in 79-80
its just behind the emus head on the 50c
Price... no idea? i hunt for the 79 and 80 daily but rarely find any.

best 50c to get atm, imo
1966 round
any pre 1974
1985 (low production)
1991 rams head
1993
1994 narrow date
incused 2000 millennium
2002
2004
and, the new 2012 Six Coin Year Sets coloured editions just for the fifty cent

an image of the double bar 66, down near the bottom of the page. the strike is milder than the other years.

I personally think its a good idea to get proof and unc sets. Both have different consumer and crossover markets and there are some years with specific coins that sold individually will pay for all the rest of the coins. any of the years above would offer a solid return on investment. just selling the 50c. And by taking sets out of the game. you raise the price of complete sets in the process.

I'm not sure how serious you are about collecting proof and uncirculated 50 cent pieces, but I noticed this recently on the forum for sale.

Based on feed back received and confirming the CV value of the coins - this appears to be a great collection of 50 cent pieces at a very reasonable price.

I am a collector of Australian 50c coins, for me it is not primarily looked upon as an investment (although it certainly is), it is a hobby and a passion to have every type and variety of legal tender 50c there is. I am not sure yet what I will do when QE II steps down as this would be a natural end point to the current collection, but I probably still have a few years to think about that. ;-)

Thanks, i'm not really a collector at all but do have a few random carded coins purchased from the local coins shop when i was in a buying mood - they very rarely stock bullion unfortunately.
