I'm wondering what everyone else thinks of the new releases perth mint are releasing tonight.

I have a couple b'day's to buy for ahead and was thinking about the wedge tail eagles as gifts.
and might look at getting a 5oz coin for myself.

Doctor Who Monsters Silurians 2014 1/2oz Silver Proof Coin

Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle 2014 1oz & 5oz Silver Proof Coins

100th Anniversary of Australian Red Cross Stamp & Coin Cover

150th Anniversay of A.B. "Banjo" Paterson Stamp & Coin Cover

Anyone else going to be up for the opening? midnight perth time or 2 am melbourne time, i'll be on the coffee's.

The wedge tail eagle also has a 5oz proof variant? Even govmint, who has exclusivity to these coins, never carried the 5oz proof version. They only had 5oz high relief.

Looks like an early night for me. Nothing there grabbed my fancy but I just got my 20 for 20 coins from the Royal Mint so I have scratched that itch for the moment.

We are only waiting for 1oz kangaroo BU to be released :P

They would be great, but that's a few months away yet, i'm going to be working extra hard to cash up for them.

Coming to think of it, 5000 1 oz wedge tail eagles aren't much at all, they made 5000 x 5 oz coins aswell so in comparison, I think the 1 oz is a winner.

I actually got the new catalogue later in the day so I was able to get a closer look.

As you can see they kinda make it clear the 5 oz is a proof.

But the price of $485 seems a bit high as the 1 oz coins are $99 and they still come in the same kind of packaging.
wouldn't it be better to get 5 x 1 oz then a 5 oz coin for the same money?
yeah 5000 of each doesn't seem right, it's outta whack, think the 1 oz will sell out by 4:30 am

Whilst I got the scanner working, What about these beauties?

The 1st issue of this series was last year, the Europe coin, still hasn't sold out and had some strange metal in the locket.
But! the 2nd coin of the series is the Australian coin, next year it's nth america, I think this Australian one is another winner.
The lockets have gold, only 0.2 grams but still, it's gold and yeah, I think this one will be ok.

I know the gold version has a huge premium but it's gorgeous don't you think?
I'll get myself a couple silver ones even though 7,500 seems a bit too many, the gold one though, only 750, that's ok.

I think you might have read it too fast and missed the detail. If you look on your scan, the 1oz is a (non-high relief) proof coin, but the 5oz specifically states that it's a high relief.

With that said, if it was a 5oz non-high relief then yeah almost $500 is a bit much, as 5pcs of 1oz proof would be a better buy. But since is high relief, I think price is justified. It looks like you guys in Aus get it at a better price than we do here in the US, but then again it doesn't come graded by PCGS.

The gold locket coin is quite overpriced. The first in the series is still on APMEX for lower than issue price.

Doesn't bode well for the series.

Quick poll, 2 hours to go and just wanted more confirmation.

5 x 1 oz wedge tails would be better then 1 x 5 oz wedge tail?

the 5 oz coin is only $10 cheaper and there's 5,000 each so the 1 oz would be a good flip wouldn't they?

Nope that's not it shiny, that's the high relief 1 oz, this one's a regular sized 1 oz, but still comes in box,
whereas I believe this version selling in the US does not come boxed.

Support the forum - click on the link and Silver Stackers gets credit for numismatic purchases you make from the Perth Mint.

Oh didn't know that. ok i'll click, clicking is what makes the internet world go round after all.

you can get a button from ebay too, if someone bids through the link, the forum would get a commission.
so it doesn't have any affect on the buyer or seller, it's simply 'cos they linked from another site and they made a purchase they would anyway.

Don't think the proof is doing as well compared to the high relief.

And I think you would be better of buying a 5oz panda compared to the 5oz proof.

That's 'cos the proof hasn't had a chance to sell out like the high relief did.

That's what tonight is all about, the creation of a mountain, a beast.
with only 5,000 this time, not 10,000 that sold out so quick? and it's a bigger coin, people will appreciate the view better.

The series continues to confuse me. I have one of each from govmint.com - 1 oz high relief, 1 oz proof and 5 oz high relief. The two high relief coins are both slabbed, the 1 oz proof is not. So what happened? Did half go to govmint and now this is the second batch for the Australian market? The quoted mintage numbers are always the same so I assume these were split between the two issue times. BTW, these coins are beautiful, they are my favorites in my stack!
