***NEW Australia Post Delivery Charges from May 1st 2012***

Hi All,

Just a heads up on the new prices for Registered Post with Australia Post

Their is no longer a weight for 1-250 grams which used to be $1.25 for postage and then $3.05 for Registered Post.

Now it is only 1-500 grams which costs $6.60 for postage and $3.05 for Registered Post.

Plus of course you have the cost of the packaging itself.

So what used to cost us between $4.50 and $5.00 depending on packaging will now cost between $9.65 + depending on packaging.

So you may want to take that into account when making offers in sales threads

Hope that helps a few of you out :-)

I watched "The Silver Dollar Economy" for the first time. It's scarier than you think - Prime Minister Julia Gillard is shown in the China clip in Devember 2012!

yeah but what about 1-4 coins?
they don't need to be sent as parcels!
you send them flat and as a large letter, not small parcel.
a rigid disk mailer is strong, secure and doesn't have the extra padding as a padded bag does, so it's thin, up to 250g is $1.80 plus $3.05 reg' plus 35c for the disk mailer.

1-4 coins = $5.20 to post, any more is just feeding AP for nothing, it's also in the interest of dealers online to go the cheapest option and get more sales.

tru, if its < 20mm thick it is calculated as a large letter and they have smaller weight thresholds
padded bag with a single layer of coins usually fits this

It's good to use those mailers (although unless you buy in bulk they are far more than 35c) but you have to look at protecting the coins with padding and that can take you over the 20mm allowed for letters. I sent some Kooks in CD mailers a while back that had the capsules broken by a clumsy postie.

So it depends - do you want cheap postage with little protection for the coins or pay a bit extra and get undamaged coins.

i you have a friendly post shop then they might let you buy half a box (50) at a time as they could use the other half to stock on the shelf anyway, again, you'd have to be crazy to pay $1 for a disk mailer when you can buy 35 and get 65 free!

I sell cards, much more delicate than a coin in a case, in maybe 5000 items sent, never had 1 damaged so you can't use that as a possibilty, nope, just as rare as having mail lost, rarely happens.

and on registered mail, if your sending a coin worth under $100 to another member, it's hardly worth sending registered, just paying $3 for nothing as it's not treated any more special, still gets there.

$3 pays for tracking, and proof of posting.

I send out lots of items a week and yes - I would agree it is unusual but I've had it with a couple of different lots of PNCs and the example I gave earlier with the kooks. Some things can be packed/protected but things like coins in capsules are already close to 20mm - you dont get a lot of room to add a layer of bubble wrap or anything else to protect.

I just send everything xpress for low valued items or platinum xpress for big $ items ,the difference is not much
1 Hate waiting so I'll pay for platinum xpress
2 The cost difference is very little & I feel better having sent items platinum xpress
