My old swiss coin collection

Hi everyone,

I'd like to share photos of my collection of old Swiss coins.

I use the German grading system. Here's the explanation:

s = schn = Fine
ss = sehr schn = Very Fine
vz = vorzglich = Extra Fine
unc = unzirkuliert = About uncirculated
pp = Polierte Platte = Mint State (MS-66 to 70)

I don't know if I got all the gradings right for every coin, I just wrote what I figured was suitable.
Sorry for the quality of the scans, I know they're not all so clear.

These first 4 are actually pre-1850 coins of the Swiss Canton of Lucerne:

I tried to get one of almost every type (various metals used with the smaller denominations, especially during the world wars):

And these are all high mint state (MS66-70), from a separate set of 1980:

What fascinates me about these coins is that the old ones (especially those after WW2) look almost exactly like the modern Swiss coins which are currently in circulation, and which I use every day. Except that they're made of silver (1/2 Franc and upwards), as it should be, not the crap that is used today :D

Nice Silver coins! I also have a collection of silver francs, old money that my grandparents and aunts have found in drawers, cupboards etc ;)

That's great :)
I have quite a collection of old british coins, because my mother is from England. I mainly purchased the old Swiss francs.

Interesting, never got any clue about the denomination values in the imperial system... Hence you seem to have the same year of birth as me, the chances that you heart about the predecimal system from your Mum are intact ;) I do have some predecimal Aussie shillings/Florins in my Ag-coin collection.

Sent you mail concerning "barstuff" ;)

Danny
