In this episode Lloyd argues that the appearance of locks in history doesn't signal a degradation of society into a less trusting, suspicious culture. On the contrary, it allowed larger populations of strangers to mix in larger towns and cities. Ergo, it proves that Property Rights are at the heart of modern civilisation. That is one of the best posts I've read on SS.

You may find Hans-Hermann Hoppes' "A Short History of Man" an interesting read, it's along the same lines. Tracking the development of property rights and individual freedom etc.

The domestication of the dog is one "invention" discussed - a living breathing "padlock". :)
 
Everyone feels guilt when they do something wrong and most can live with that guilt but 100% will only feel "sorry" once they actually get caught!
