Kooks vs. ASE

This is a no brainer for me. Providentmetals.com (just as a reference..I know they don't ship outside of US/Canada) has 2013 ASE's for $24.62 and 2014 Kooks for $24.13. Only 500k Kooks minted vs. tens of millions for the ASE. The Kooks come in an airtite so they are always flawless. The Kooks design changes every year. Americans tend to have an issue with the Queen on coins but I could really care less given all the positives you get with the Kooks. I really like ASE but you kinda hold your breath when you order them since the finish tends to vary quite a bit in my experience. I know when I order Kooks they will be flawless and I can save the .50 cents each for an airtite. For resale purposes waaaaay down the road I can't see a better buy. Am I missing something?

In this situation, definitely kooks. I sold all my ASEs. The one thing the ASEs give you is privacy. Sell a bunch of kooks back to a dealer and you may get a 1099. Not so for ASEs.

Some of both but ya the kooks would win in this situation for sure. I just like both of them two of my favs. My problem is that when I go to buy I will have what I want in mind then end up buying something completely different.

I would like to have a few ASE, but it just feel wrong paying the same for an ASE than for a Kook.
Are the ASE coins in the usa closer to spot price?

@mnrvermaak, well the price for a 2013 ASE in the states as of this moment is $23.68US ($3.99 over spot) at Goldmart.com. Goldmart does not have any Kooks in stock but if you go to Providentmetals.com you can get a 2013 Kook for $27.31US but the 2014 Kooks are going for $24.11.

Given the above facts it makes absolutely no sense to me to purchase an ASE over a Kook given the Kooks are a limited run piece of silver that WILL be a collectible in addition to a very stackable 1oz. The reason I even posted in the first place is because it is such an obvious choice to me I figured I was missing something important. The only thing I can come up with is the Queen must turn off a lot of people who have a choice between the two especially given the whole "Slave Queen" coin from SBSS. I grew up in Detroit, MI and it reminds me of the attitude, "every time you buy a foreign car you put an American out of work" mentality. I always answered that stupid comment with, "well, make better cars dumb***!"

It is a bit of a silly an argument that some use to not buy certain coins...because the Queen's effigy is on it because she wasn't a good person. Do these same people also not accept US paper money in denominations of $1, $2, $20, $50, and $5,000? these denomination notes depict men who owned slaves; is there any evil against another human that is worse than chattel slavery?

Don't get me wrong, if someone doesn't like the Queens then fine...after all, I have no liking for any royalty at all and it doesn't mean you give a pass to whatever harms the Queen (or any royalty for that matter) have done just as my accepting of paper money with slave owning presidents doesn't mean that I excuse those harms they were a part of.

.

Absolutely, we can go on and on about the reasons we should or should not put a bust of a president/royal family member on either fiat or precious metals. I will not argue that here. I am simply stating I cannot understand why the 500,000 Kooks are not being gobbled up in the first three months of any given year since they are superior in both quality and collectibility compared to the ASE. It has to be the Queen. If that is the reason I don't agree with it but what other explanation is there?

In my opine, this definitely has to be a large consideration. If the world goes to financial soup, as anticipated, an exit strategy suitable for the local area has to be a factor.

If you live in the USA buy ASE's, if you live in Australia buy Kookaburra's.

What if one lives in Canada?

Spotty. :(

When I went to a coin shop in Canada not long ago, they kept all their maples in their cash register.

And they weren't as interested in silver bars. Maples are the way to go apparently.

When I started buying ASEs in 2007, the premiums were 1.49-1.89 and except for the 2008 crisis, those premiums continued through 2010. Stopped buying ASE mint boxes for myself after July of 2010, so I didn't track the premiums as closely. When silver tanked in 2008, the premiums went as high as $6, but nothing near what MM and others claimed. They were apparently using the pricing on the 1996 ASE which does have a little rarity premium. Right now premiums are about double the 2007-2010 prices. The fact that ASE sales are at record levels and premiums are higher at the same time silver is tanking is interesting.

The only bad ASEs I ever received were from Goldmart, in 2012. Two separate times I bought 8-9 ASEs to finish out a $7500 AGE order and qualify for free shipping. Coloration was off for about 1/3 to 2/3 of each coin. Goldmart's response was to blame the mint. Stopped ordering from them because of that. The only dealer that stands behind what they sell is Apmex, but they also charge more.
