Heads or Tails? This is how we were taught since we were young. Every question must connect to only one possible answer. An absolute answer. If you recall our education life, you probably know what I am talking about. Most of us are wired up to think linearly almost all of the time. In school, we get rewarded by memorizing contents and formulas and then reproduce them flawlessly. Any creativity or "thinking outside the box" mentalities are receipts of disaster in exams. So even i played the education game well in university, I do not recommend this path. I think we should all learn by doing and questioning not memorizing. We learn by making mistakes, exploring and taking risks. That is how we have great scientists like Albert Einstein. That is how Thomas Edison invented electric light bulbs which illuminate the world. The reason why this is included in this topic is because critical thinking is very important in investing. Thinking linearly pays a very expensive price. History does repeat with a twist. Past events might not always guarantee only one possible future outcome. A sound investment that is logical and make sense might not always means it will do well. A coin does not only has two faces, it has edges.

"If everyone thinks the same, then there is not much thinking". I find this a valuable advice. People always feel comfortable to listen to and believe in what they feel comfortable with. After that they translate this comfort as their truth. This is especially true if something sounds logical and rational. Beaware.
