Fake 1oz gold roos on Ebay - Aus seller

Description says not solid gold but coin has nothing on it so is a forgery of a Perth Mint coin and therefore a federal crime in Australia.
Three pictures are of the real deal - only 2 pictures are of actual coin being sold


I hope the Federal Police take action against this seller based in Melbourne
Ebay doesn't seem to care

actually you can not determine if it is a forgery from that pic. Most of the fakes dont have a dollar amount on them and therefor they are not illegal.
 
From what I was told the AFP will only get involved if there's an actual $ amount on the replica. The PM could get them for copyright infringement but that would be about it really.

Why the AFP don't do what the RCMP have done on the Canadian EBay (blanket ban on any sort of counterfeits, replicas, copies etc) is beyond me. Lack of resources or care?

Annoyingly the replicas undermine trust in the market for coins, but maybe the AFP simply aren't tasked with, or budgeted for, policing online sales and certainly eBay seems immune from any market integrity responsibility.
 
Gotta get some AFP employees interested in stacking and then maybe they can have a word with the right people.

See if that gets their attention.

or the most likely reason is the coins are not actually illegal ( dont have dollar amount on it )

I can only assume all the people buying thus crap on ebay are themselves planning to try and pass the coin off as real at some point
they are worthless otherwise
