Confiscation

Alright, this forum is starting to get depressing...we need some good news for once! :P

Umm...I should be getting my first ever silver purchase in the mail tomorrow, w00t! And hopefully the government will never be able to find me to take it away (if they care about a few oz's anyways)

This makes me wonder about that article...when they say 'citizens', did they take the gold away from the richest at that time, or just the middle income guys? I mean...how many of the working class people had gold back then?
 
This is one of the reasons that dealers require you to "open an account" with them...

This is so that the government can reel you in whenever they feel like it.
 
I thought it was more of an assurance thing...like if I missed a payment, they would know where to find me. Or am I being naive?

I agree that the dealer would require certain info - eg your name and address if delivery was required.
It should never be a requirement that they have a copy of your drivers license. THAT is purely a government requirement... but the dealers will never admit that because it would be financial suicide.
 
Actually most dealers ensure to point out that any request for ID is required for AUSTRAC / AML / CTF reasons. Mind you it's often asked for unnecessarily.
 
Do you think the Aussie government would do this? Personally I don't. Couldn't you just deny that you have any if they asked??? Bury it for a period of time until it was safe to go dig it up again???

This sort of shit REALLY p!55es me off. First they give us monopoly money, inflate something that's already worth nothing, THEN prevent you for securing ANYTHING that has any value OR take the stuff that you DO have!! GET F$%KED.

Pursuant to s51(xxxi) of the Constitution, the Commonwealth Parliament can make laws with respect to "the acquisition of property on just terms". "Property" is broadly defined, and would, doubtless, include precious metals. Would it ever happen? Guess we'll have to wait and see.
 
I think if...and thats a huge if...they ever decided to do anything like that, they would only go after people who they knew had huge quantities of silver/gold. I don't think anything under 100 oz's would be worth their time.

Then again, ya never know...the US has already tapped thousands of civilians with our telephone companies approval (although they weren't supposed to give it).

I think its much more plausible in the U.S. then it is anywhere else, but maybe thats just my view point.

Unless they set one up automatically and didn't tell me? All they have is my address and the bank transfer. They never asked me about drivers licence etc.
 
Agree with the pelican here, nationalization of the mines will happen before confiscation and doubt they will go after silver but just gold.

They've taken stuff off people before for the common good and you can bet they'll do it again.

Also they resume peoples houses all the time

Whilst argueable, I would believe, that it would be against the Constitution to legislate the confiscation of legal tender.

Especially if the AG/AU is in legal tender coin form as per s115. As far as I am aware, legal tender cannot be rejected as a mode of payment, or indeed confiscated, especially if condoned and sanctioned by the Constitution. Just my musings :D
