sure is setting itself up to be a huge disappointment. 1oz silver and gold will be about it for me. Look like an ultra cynical attempt to cash in on the hype by cranking out a million different gimmicks.
 
there going to give that new press a work out by the looks of it. There give'n the coloured a big hit, looks like the power rangers.

Coloured is how to circumvent the 300,000 limit on the regular specimen bullion, which can't be raised.
 
anyone done that yet to a coloured coin?
is it identical underneath? and does it mess with the silver?(tarnish it)
 
Anyone attempting to collect the full set will be up for some serious cashola - cheers for the info, I'm off to make a list of what I want.
 
i REALLY dislike coloured coins. think a few other purists would feel the same way
 
Yeah... the Brown Dragon et al... not sure what they were thinking there.

Perth Mint first big mintage attempt with coloured bullion coins was a complete disaster. Tens of thousands of ounces of coloured dogs were dumped to APMEX and despite they were selling only 49c over spot (generic round were selling 79c over spot) APMEX could not sell them well.
The biggest issue was at kitco forum that time how to get rid of the stupid paint. Many indicated the 30 cents extra on generic round are better value because at least they get clean silver. Finally one day the entire unsold coins diapered from APMEX, probably melted down because not many can be seen on the second hand market.

I was reading over this list again today and realised they are doing a 'Silver coloured' Silver coin: "silver bullion coins features a coloured representation (Silver: 1oz)". So appears that Perth Mint will be slapping some Silver paint on a Silver bullion coin and calling it coloured. I assume these won't have mintage limits. There is a very real possibility that it could look almost exactly the same as the mintage limited bullion coin.

Any thoughts on whether this might detract from the premium the 300,000 limited bullion coin could achieve...?

I missed that the other day when I was naming off the color coins for a friend. While I still think that the Dragon will be a much better investment than an ASE, I don't believe the 2012 Dragons will do near as well as the 2000 Dragons. As a business person, I have to applaud the PM for their creativity in circumventing the rules, but as an investor, I have concerns about the future premiums on the 2012 Dragons.

+1 on everything you said hobo-jo.

Also the 2000 dragon is minted in the year 2000 which is of great significance to a lot of collectors being the turn of the millenium.

Just don't see the 2012 dragons going that high in prices, and we haven't even seen the design yet. If they fail with the dragon (like Tiger on Gold coins) it might be a massive flop lol.
