Beginners metal detectors

A mate at work is getting interested iin searching for gold because we often work in areas known for gold.

Obviously he's talking quite basic as a beginner but I don't want to see him waste money on some crap from Wish.

Does anybody have a suggestion for something worthwhile? I tried a topic search but didn't come across much.

If he’s not going to get bored after a few outings and can afford it, the Rangertell is always highly recommended.
After that, Minelab and Garrett.
