another government debt binge in the making.

We all know there's not much chance of surpluses going forward. So that only leaves borrowing.

I would be happy to se a debt binge on something like decent mass transit systems for our cities. Problem is we got a debt binge on pink batts instead so there is no binge money left for the good stuff.

+1 of course

Don't forget the 'Billion Dollar Building jobs program" (that should be buying jobs program) which is in part going to be paid for by scrapping Research & Development tax concessions

pretty much the only thing keeping us ahead of the world...and she's going to scrap it. :/

with debt gone toxic loading up billions on debt when a good bus line would do the job seems like overkill. the greens want light rail so that's what they'll get and the rest of us will pay it off.

Cough up another $35 billion for those F35 fighters!

Doesn't matter whose the PM.. deal already done except for the final cost!

Pay up and play the game. :)

Regards Errol 43

fighters? defence is one of the few legitimate expenditures of government.

this "future proofing" smacks of pork barrelling and when the mining booms ends soon the debt will be building.

The F35 is a big white elephant. Good legacy of the wasteful Howard government. No consultation, just Howard being an American sycophant and buying a useless plane without putting the contract up for tender. The plane should be ready now and isn't likely to be till at least 2018. The planes costs have blown out massively. As bad, if not worse than the useless Collins class sub that labor bought. Both sides of government are useless.

more government debt coming.

But Mr Barnett said he intended to pay for his $1.8 billion light rail project and a near $2 billion airport rail line out of borrowing and budget surpluses.

"There will be growth in state debt, but it is in control. We have a AAA credit rating, and we are in good shape," Mr Barnett said.

Doesn't Australia likewise have an AAA credit rating? Isn't it also in good shape? Based on that logic, maybe Gillard should take out a loan at the same time and build something. :)

Yeah, $40 billion plus for the NBN.

LOL I actually forgot all about that moneypit. Sort of like an open-cut mine under my nose that I just tripped over (or fell in to). Perhaps Parliament question time might be of more value if someone posted an NBN update question rather than the typical childish back and forth currently going on.

At this point she is borrowing money to make welfare payments and to pay the public service.

ahhhhh. So it gets back to blaming that segment of the Australian population for all our current woe's? Mate, the Libs stink as bad as Labor. Aren't you following the F35 thread? Last time I looked, it was Howard that indebted us with that bright intiative. Not to mention the hidden costs (losses) to the Australian economy with the Free Trade agreement. Why don't we look at the real problem at hand ie the highest levels of control over the Australian economy, instead of looking at the scapegoats?

What on earth are you talking about? How did you read "So it gets back to blaming that segment of the Australian population for all our current woe's?" into my post? Where did I mention the Liberal party?

I was simply using two fundamental and necessary government expenses to highlight the fact that this government is now borrowing money to pay for everything. That's why they had to raise our debt ceiling to 270 billion dollars.

If you are going to comment on someone's post at least try and read it first.
