hi guys
thought this may worth to share with your guys. I recently came across a few British gold sovereigns with shield on reverse. one of them dated 1854 has a very odd "E" case on the shield side, refer to picture. it looks like a E but with a dot on top.
I have searched online and find no information about this die. it looks like a mint error or a re-punch on the alphabet which makes the top of the case bit galeated. Although i been collecting world coins for many years but am still very new to the sovereign world so I was wondering if you guys could provide any information on this variety. also please have a quick look on your shield sovereigns maybe there is an odd "E" piece like this one.
ps. if someone has a copy of mash's sovereign book could you please have a quick look on 1854 british sovs page see if such die variety or mint error has been written down? I don't have this book although i always eager to have one
Thanks for your time guys & enjoy stacking.
