2000 mirror panda

Hey I am new to collecting pandas , I have bought and sold them for years as bullion but i am starting to get into collecting them (thanks silver stackers my wallet is a little lighter now) probably a bad move investment wise but I am starting to like them more. I am curious to see what you real collectors think a 2000 mirror silver panda is worth right now? they seem all the rage and I just saw a set from 2000 -2011 that I noticed had the 2000 mirror and the 2001-D sell on ebay for $1225 I bid $1200 , it seems like a good deal but I wanted to get some thoughts here on it. thanks
 
I'm no panda expert, but that seems far too cheap to me. Would have valued the 2000 mirror at least $500 raw on its own.
If it seems to good to be true...
Like many here have said, it comes down to trust - do you trust the person selling the set? Do they have a history of selling coins etc. Do they have decent photos up of the coins. I have been caught once with a fake 2000 panda, managed to get my $ back but I'm probably one of the lucky few.
If you put the ebay link up, the local panda experts will be able to give you a definitive answer - such a very helpful bunch of stackers here :)
 
Here is the item number 260920681378 I dont know how to link it direct but you should be able to look it up or let me know how to hook up a link . I have dealt with the bay for years and nothing about this seems out of the ordinary to me (or I wouldnt have bid $1200) they did not list the coins individually i just noticed the mirrored and the 2001 d from the pictures, I am guessing it is just a collector and i missed out but lets see what the experts think .
 
Probably came down to the risk.

The guy has 100% feedback but still...

The mirrored gets faked more often then not so buying it in raw from a random on eBay would take a lot of faith.
 
My friend bought a 2000 Mirror panda last week for $45 at the coin shop. It's real, not fake. I thought it was a nice score.

The US is amazing for getting some hidden gems at bargain prices.

I have heard stories of people getting 2000 dragons at close to spot, old pandas for melt value and so on.

Bit sad there isn't much of this locally in Australia, there's no shortage of RAM and PM numismatic issues but that's about it.

I'm willing to pay up to $1500 for a perfect 2000 Mirror in OMP. But it is not easy to:
1. Locate available 2000 Mirrors.
2. Find flawless 2000 Mirrors (no whitespots, no nicks, etc).
3. Get a good price (often flawless bears sell for much more than $1500).
4. Find a seller that will let me inspect before purchasing - or give me a return guarantee.

Experts can say what they think and correct me. But I would say this is fake.

2001 D looks also fake. I buy one fake 2001D so I kind of study 2001 D coins. Got my money back so I was lucky.

Is this the "ONLY" way black spot develops on a coin, from impurities in the metal ? I suppose mould wouldn't grow due to Silver's antibacterial properties ? or a grease spot etc... Just trying to establish there are no other practical ways for spots to appear.

Black spot is where the plating fails to fully cover the copper below. Legit pandas don't have them usually.
 
So I guess some legit pandas could have black spots right? I have had other silver coins with tarnish but it looked obviously different from plating, I even had a sealed silver maple with bright blue and green toning on the rim it actually would have been nice if it was on one of the face sides. Anyway thanks for the imput I am trying to learn more about these.

Toning is different, hard to explain but once you buy enough coins you will see that toning starts from the edge usually and is spread relatively evenly whereas these black spots are just patches.
 
Thanks for the info fishball, hey do you have any good references to good pictures of the mint seal patterns over the years on the gold and silver pandas?

Peter Anthony's Panda Book + Mr Ge's book both have high quality pictures of the real coin.
 
Thanks , actually I meant the pattern on the plastic seals on double sealed coins, any reference and pictures for that? Thanks
