These coins only contain 0.2948 ounces of gold (22 carat or 10.0 grams of 0.9167 gold). That puts their AUD450 starting price at AUD1526.86 an oz, nicely below spot (currently AUD1731.19). The AUD500 price tag equals AUD1696.07 an oz, also below spot.

However, these are CHARLES and DIANA coins we're talking about. You have to include the cost to melt them down into something more acceptable!
 
The great thing about these coins is that if gold price dies in the arse you only lose about half your investment as they are still $200 legal tender...but then again in the future $200 may be worth $20 :0p
