You'd think it would be a previous owner of the property, not sure how anyone else could explain why they buried gold on someone else's property.

That articule didn't say it was buried or how long the present owner lived there. Is there another articule that did say it was buried?

If it was buried then the police should be checking with the previous owner but they are asking for people to come forward to claim it leading me to think it was not buried.
