After opinions on this one. Looks like a mis-strike? Is it common on $2 coins?

Don't really know too much about this kind of stuff so any information or opinions appreciated.

its fairly common, I come across a few of those every now and again.

Slightly mis-aligned dies, very common and only worth more than face if the rim in that area is effected to, such as with a partial collar error.

I think that is what happened here? Can you see the double rim at the top of the coin? Not sure if it's coming out properly in the image.

The rim where the reeding is, rather than the rim at the top of the coin. If the rim (where the reeding is) shows a step then it's a partial collar error. Got a pic of the rim in that area so we can look at it?
