1oz platinum koalas

what do u guys know about this platinum series called australian stories 1oz platinum koala ? i think the series was running from 2000 or 2001 to 2005.this was the first time the mint used the enamel coloring on coins.

one year the mint only sold 22,so there is only 22 complete set.if anyone knows about this more info,pic or value that would be great.

and yes I know someone who has the whole set in mint condition and willing to sell for the right price.

Yep: 2001 - 2005, the 1oz plat koala had an Australian heritage design in place of the queen's head
Not really a theme that would have as much appeal around the world though


Wouldn't expect they would be worth very much above spot
Similar size gold proofs from the same period usually sell for bullion prices these days

The smaller platinum koala proofs (1/10 oz) are usually in much higher demand and would command a bigger premium - much more affordable to make a set


Rarity alone does not necessarily create value - there must also be demand

I saw a 1/20oz koala today for $120. Was going to buy it until i realised that it was about 50% premium.

Okay, got sucked into buying the 1/20 2003 plat koala today. I don't know yet if it is a waste of money but I did want it.

Only proof plat coins are at the link you provided and the 2003 shows that 1/20oz were part of a set only.

Does anyone know what this means for coins that are sold individually?

I bought a 1/20 oz also no where near spot but i think it would sell for a similar premium when it comes time to sell.
