1887 British Roman Double Florin - Proof or Not ?

Hi

Got this today along with a lot of coins, and while I was looking at it, it appeared to have a different finish compared to the two other years I got with it.

Had a look at the book and I could see there was a proof version minted on that year

What you guys think, does this look like a proof one ?

Cheers

Here it is next to the 1889, and there's quite a difference in the finish

the lack of toning disturbs me a bit on this piece
I would have said cleaned or fake but I am no authority on these pieces

Its been polished, look between the letters and between the harp and shield. They couldnt get to the low/ tight spots.

The weight is 22.6g which the exact weight of a double florin

I agree, there's even some rubbing marks on the queen side between dei and gratia

However, I'm still intrigued as of whether this coin is proof or not, it has a very clear mirror finish which is very different from the two other ones I have...

Hi Camel.. i think its proof.. or at least UNC with a brilliant strike.. the hair line is too sharp as not usual so visable..

Agree it has been cleaned but im guessing its proof by the unusual clarity of deatils on fine points..

1for1

I think it's a cleaned circulation strike. I am not seeing definition on the rims on the obverse and the detail is quite soft through Vicky's hair.
