5 oz Graded Panda... has this been tampered with?

Good Day Panda Community, I recently made a foray into the 5 oz panda market for the first time, purchasing a NGC graded 2007 panda. Since this is a new area of interest and there is a red flag with the purchase, I am wondering if I could get a second opinion on what I am seeing. The...

    Pandas in Hard Plastic Cases

The hard plastic cases which have historically housed new panda issues are never fully flush. If you pick one up and turn it around, you can usually hear a small plastic click as the coin moves and settles inside the holder. (Especially on the old style of plastic case) I am curious if this...

Random Date Panda coins on APMEX

I've gotten dates of our choice pandas from a number of dealers and they have never been all that exceptional. Some have had problems like damaged plastics or red spotting (for gold). And all of them have been common varieties. So I really find it hard to believe a really experienced dealer...

[QA] 2009 1oz silver panda for USD$50.00... Good buy?

I am disappointed by the comments offered here. People here know values on their Pandas. So they know when a deal is too good to be true. So then how can you act surprised when a too-good-to-be-true deal turns out to be too good to be true? Shouldn't a higher degree of skepticism been...

[opinion] 2012 Singapore coin show proof panda

Personally I'm more excited about the 30th anniversary issues over these. I don't qualify the Singapore issues as "real" pandas because of the lack of a denomination and temple of heaven.

[OPINION] Silver Proof 1 oz series, musings and rankings.

Yeah, it is just a personal taste thing of mine. The panda's face looks "off" somehow compared to other issues. Maybe just the viewing angle since it is looking directly straight ahead instead of angled. Good luck on the series yourself, I know what it is like to be distracted by too many...

[OPINION] Silver Proof 1 oz series, musings and rankings.

I have nearly the whole set of these, and while I won't comment on each one individually I will say 85, 95, and 94 are my top 3 design-wise, all exceptional in their own way. 85 being my favorite for its simple yet elegant look. 93 and 96 are under-appreciated design-wise. Conversely, the...

    Ebay purchase and protection

No problem at all. The one thing I think that people mis-understand... PayPal's dispute/claim process isn't there to be the white knight of injustice for its customers, it is there to save the company money on chargebacks and disputed payments... if it helps customers at all it is purely...

    Ebay purchase and protection

As someone who used to work at PayPal and process dispute claims, I can safely say their record in resolving cross-border (international) disputes is very spotty. For some countries it's great, for others it is not. Bank wire is totally unprotected, and is worse. If it was me in your shoes, I...

2012 "30th Anniversary of Gold Pandas Issuance" Gold & Silver Pandas

Several beautiful designs, but disappointing that there is no 1 oz Ag variety.

    Your core position...

At the end of our lives, we are all going to have assets left over... property, money, investments, tangible items, etc. Just because they are left over after death does not make them a waste. A PM stack is an insurance policy against fiscal calamity. It's a means of savings, investment...

    2012 Panda Release Date

Looks like fakes/imitations are already starting to surface. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-New-version-Panda-1-ounce-silver-china-chinese-coin-/120869054092?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item1c245b668c The "1 oz. .999 au" signage is missing from the bottom of the coin. 0 feedback seller. Looks...

[OPINION] NCS/NGC Experience - Pleasure and Pain

I rolled the dice recently on an opened proof panda with some pronounced greasy fingerprints across the face. Is that type of thing an ideal candidate for NGC services? And if so, is it at all cost effective to engage their services for only one coin?

Had a bargain on ebay but will I ever see it?

The COA's can be faked just the same as the coin itself. The paper has a different consistency than the real ones, but they are known to exist.

    New to Panda's

Pretty cool to see a high school student thinking about this type of thing. Starting early in life is a great advantage and I wish you great success. I'm a huge panda fan, but personally I think low premium bullion is a better play from a pure investment play. Numismatic and graded coins have...

    2012 Panda Release Date

I don't understand why the mint doesn't just increase their premium to account for the lower spot price. If the spot price of silver is X dollars below their supply costs, why not add another X dollars of premium to the price of the coin to counterbalance any losses.

    What's Different...

In part I think it boils down to the psychology of the marketplace. Not every collector is scrutinizing mintage numbers... in some minds it simply boils down to "older = more rare = more expensive" and the price is marked up accordingly. As another point, the panda market is still very young...

    [OPINION] Old Bears Strike Back

89 has always been my least favorite design of any panda... the grid background pattern just doesn't work for me. From my experience it is a year that everybody has strong opinions about one way or another... love or hate.

    Panda Photos

I don't do anything fancy with all the commemoratives or date varieties, but its a fun collection to look at. 1985 to present... although I dread the day the 2012's come out and I have to punch a new hole or get a bigger frame.
