    "Mateship tax"

Gentlemen, the simple premise that you can have it all and keep everything to yourself is a selfish fallacy. This is Australia, we don't have a national industry that can finance it all for us. That is the simple point I addressed, yet it earned 2 essays which I suspect deliberately missed the...

    Got SMSF?

So for clarity, are you still blaming the boomers or have you now shifted to blaming the super industry?

    Got SMSF?

Keep in mind, that your clever new tax on super, will be at a much higher tax rate by the time you come to collect your super. Will you still see it as a good idea when that time comes?

QLD Floods : Bligh open to insurance rethink

Fair point indeed! But my thrust was that only a cry baby would consider her comments to be "coming down heavy" on insurance companies.

QLD Floods : Bligh open to insurance rethink

Dude, you are seriously delusional if you read those comments to be coming down heavy on the insurance companies. Her comments are more of a smokescreen to deflect people away from thinking too much about why the government hasn't done anything to prepare for flooding in the 35 years since the...

    deflation + dip = nervousness

+1 There is more hype floating around than needs to be, but I guess they need to be sensational to sell. We see the same thing repeated here frequently. As investors/speculators, it's our duty to look at all sides of the coin - whether we like it or not.

Does anyone out there insure their PMs?

I know people that have had new-ish TV's stolen, in one case they walked right past 2 notebook computers just inside the door. Put the TV in the back of a van or wagon, and instant money at the local pub most likely.

When Money Dies: The Nightmare of Weimar Collapse

Even the evening news told that the sharemarket had pulled ahead. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/13/3112381.htm The dollar has just gone back above parity, though it's bouncing around a bit.

When Money Dies: The Nightmare of Weimar Collapse

If you are a renter and your landlord is leveraged and can't pay, will the bank take over and become the landlord? If so, is that a good situation to be in? If not, what would happen to the tenants?

    General PM's Thankyou / Liquidity

BankSA has a $2k limit at least at the local bank ATM.

    General PM's Thankyou / Liquidity

JuliW, it depends what you think you will need the cash for. $2k will buy a few weeks of groceries, or if prices tank then 2kg of silver, or an ounce of gold. I can get more from the bank 5 days a week, I don't forsee any emergency that would require more than $2k in less than 48 hours. Most...

Big Buy #2; looking for insight

Buy $1000 silver now, then buy $500 more if the price goes lower than what you paid for it. If the price drops further again, buy the last $500. Sit back, relax and wait for it to bounce back up.

    General PM's Thankyou / Liquidity

If I had a total of $20k, I would go $1k cash, $4k bank, $15k metal With $40k or more, I would go $2k cash, $10k bank, the rest in metal. The cash is for emergency food - you can't use a credit card if the power is out, or for buying metal if a really good deal became available. The bank...

    Australia heads for economic crunch

Aus, no need to make things up. I wasn't refuting data, merely adding thoughts for input. I feel sorry that you feel a need to take everything as a joust and fail to see a comment for what it is. I do understand that your feeling is of paranoia however. Learn the difference between...
