Who swapped out silver for gold at 1kg:1oz?

I sold 1kg of silver and bought an ounce of gold when silver was $46-ish. Then bought another 120oz of silver when it dropped to $30-ish.

    Suggestions for (usually) conservative investor?

Exactly! Which is why one of us has to go! Think I'll treat silver like a love affair - best kept in the background and taken a little at a time.

    Suggestions for (usually) conservative investor?

Thanks for the replies! Another thing that concerns me is I seem to be emotionally attached to my silver which strikes me as a very bad thing for a very small-time investor. It feels like I need to get rid of it before this relationship goes too far and somebody gets hurt! :) Gold, on the...

    Suggestions for (usually) conservative investor?

Since September 2010, I've accumulated 75oz of .999 silver. At today's spot, I've 'made' a 'profit' of about 85%. While I'm very pleased by that, I'm usually a very conservative investor and the volatility of silver makes me a tad nervous (if a little bit thrilled)l. I'm thinking I should...

    Confiscation

I'm thinking that 'calling in' a coin means, not confiscation, but withdrawal. For example, 1 and 2c coins have been 'called in', in that they are no longer minted for circulation. (They do, of course, remain legal tender.)

    Confiscation

I don't see the connection between legal tender coins and protection from acquisition by the Commonwealth. Anyway, who actually has property in a legal tender coin? (Have to think about that one...) Hmmm, seriously off-topic, but, see Criminal Assets Confiscation Act 2005 (SA) and Serious...

    Confiscation

"115. States not to coin money. A State shall not coin money, nor make anything but gold and silver coin legal tender in payment of debts" = Only the Commonwealth may coin money. A State cannot create its own standard of legal tender. For example, Queensland cannot legislate to coin its...

    Confiscation

Errr, no. s115 merely preserves to the Commonwealth the right to coin money and determine what is legal tender. (The bit about 'gold and silver' is just an anachronism.) Nothing to do with the acquisition power. Even were your interpretation correct, not all precious metal is held as legal...

    Confiscation

Pursuant to s51(xxxi) of the Constitution, the Commonwealth Parliament can make laws with respect to "the acquisition of property on just terms". "Property" is broadly defined, and would, doubtless, include precious metals. Would it ever happen? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Difference between 1966 50c and PreDecimals

Perhaps that the 1966 50c is legal tender might explain their popularity as against pre-decimal.

too bad he's not as good at spelling as he is "refineing" silver

I want to know which mold he made first. I'll bet he does his refining on his french prudential dinning table.

too bad he's not as good at spelling as he is "refineing" silver

Oh, 'tis cruel to mock the afflicted! (No wonder it takes him ten hours to produce each bar: after all, he has to spend time considering whether it's an 'M&M REFINING' or an 'M&M REFINEING' kind of bar.)
