No one buys it until a foreign tourist does purely as a collector item, not intrinsic value.
Australia is generally more expensive than Europe. Exception may well be bullion where we have a vast array of options and great prices not far over spot.

Big article in today's Australian newspaper page 19 on the growing popularity of gold and many predicting up to 3k an oz within next few years.
No mention of silver though unfortunetly.
