safety of gold vaults and fractional reserve storage

This is just in my personal opinion, and I cannot speak directly of the facility you're referring to as I'm unfamiliar with it. All of that said, what you want to look for in any vault or storage facility is that they're not a bank as such - as an example, if you stored your bullion in a safe...

When the crash comes knocking on Australia's door...

The problem is, I don't think having money in the bank at a time when the RE market bubble bursts is a wise idea. Banks lend a considerable sum to homeowners for mortgages. If the market crashes, and RE prices fall, many homeowners will find themselves owing more money to the bank than the...

Size matters - What's your idea of a decent stack?

Nice target, but for my personal preference this is weighted too far toward silver. Initial target for me is 1000oz silver and 100oz gold.

Fed may increase rates by mid year.

But surely, whether you start with $1, $1000 or eleventy bazillion dollars, an interest rate of 0.25% means you're losing purchasing power, irrespective of whatever numbers come out of the calculation? On that basis, I'd think the "big boys and girls" won't be sticking their cash in places that...

New Perth Mint Gold Bar Packaging

I'll agree, they do look nice! I don't mind the old green cards, makes a lot of sense when you consider Australia is "Green and Gold" - so there's a bit of a "sentimental" loss in this change, but for pure aesthetic looks, this new style rocks :)

Trading Limit Reach In 30day Limit ???

It's Sunday afternoon - you might need to consider this in light of the fact that a human being needs to confirm your payment, then (at a guess) manually upgrade your account here. So, yes, might take a wee bit of time.

Why is gold rising because of the Swiss franc's cap loss?

Have a think about this situation for a minute. We sit here reading news that the SNB has removed the peg of the Franc to the Euro, and ostensibly, we have a flight of fear into... gold. Stop and consider - there has been considerable debate on here of what is likely to happen in the event of...

Aren't the cheap oil prices undermining the petrodollar as well?

With respect, the US economy isn't performing well, it's probably performing less badly than most other major economies right now, which is leading to the demand/support for the USD. IMO an economy that's performing well doesn't need key data being fudged, and is one that is growing at a...

How can I support the local economy...

Couple of points - if the goods cross state lines, then sales tax doesn't apply for US purchasers either, as far as I know, and then consider that they pay considerably less shipping than we do (or, perhaps, better to say, the difference in shipping often accounts for the additional sales tax).

    A Sincere Thank You

Good on you both! :) Getting to that point of being debt-free is actually a pretty good feeling, it's like a weight being lifted from your shoulders almost :)

Maybe everything will be ok? No economic collapse. No SHTF scenarios.

Here's the contrarian point of view: The Cuban Missile Crisis, and some later computer glitches in the 1980's bought the world perilously close to precisely this outcome. True, this did not happen. You think the world's morals haven't collapsed? Maybe I'm getting too old (I think they...

    Troy ounce ?

You will be killed on the premiums you will pay on buying such small amounts on a weekly basis. Perhaps consider buying the grams and putting them to an unallocated account, saving the grams and then redeeming for 1/2 or 1 ounce items as you've been able to save the amounts aside? Goldstackers...

World Gold Holdings - Who Owns What - IMF 2/14

Completely agree. China bought that much gold in 2013 alone.

    14. Admit to yourself that if you're bartering away precious metals for something as basic as bread, you failed in your SHTF preparations. ;)

Which one to buy? ultrasonic thickness gauge

I've got one, and exactly as noted here, they're brilliant for use on large bars (1oz bars are a bit thin to measure) - think in terms of 10oz bars or better. Use on thinner products such as 1oz bars or coins - not useful. Would I buy another if I lost the one I have? Yes, but only if I was a...
