The Oxymoron of modern banking and the economy

Relatively recently Ireland, Iceland and Cyprus all had roaring financial sectors... just sayin'.

    Exit Strategy

I lost the source, but I recall reading some stats on Weimar inflation (breakdown by percentage of income). The major expense by far in hyperinflation was food, along with other basics like energy and clothes. The cost of rent declined as a percentage of income. The thing that stuck with me was...

Is the RBA planning to monetise sub-prime mortgage losses?

The Fed can tip in a few billion like they did five years ago too (when it dropped to 0.60).

    PNG and Australia..New Auto Industry?

If PNG was such a desirable place for investment then it wouldn't be a 3rd world country that it is.

Sprott phased out of investment decisions and now chief cheerleader

Capitulation of the biggest 'bulls'/'bears' is usually a sign that we're close(r) to a turning point in the markets. If Sprott's fund is essentially saying "we're getting out of PMs" then IMO we're getting closer to a floor in prices.

    ->Anybody follows the guy at armstrongeconomics.com ?

I've been reading his work for about five years. Definitely worth at least exploring his work. I know a few who day trade and find his writings useful. I don't agree with everything he writes but his insights based on historical data is second to none IMO.

Who screwed Centrelink down so hard?

I copped a $900 electricity invoice during last winter. Mainly to do with heating (for infant's room) and hot water. I keep things turned off when not being used. I can see how one can get hit with a huge invoice if they're in a poorly insulated house and have children. Prior to 1946 the...

Looks like the spread between anx and btc-e has shrunk to almost nothing. Will be interesting to see if that remains the case.

The Elephant in The Room nobody's talking about!

Sharing is caring. BTW, anyone know a way of avoiding the bitcoin-qt transaction fee? I know it is small but I find it annoying.

The Elephant in The Room nobody's talking about!

Unless you have a local bank account to the exchange then it's likely you'll be hit with wire transfer fees. I haven't seen any way around it as practically nowhere accepts debit/credit cards.

    Sell now...Buy next year?

Beware the AUD on any major drop. Not to say 2008-9 would be repeated but the AUD fell faster than AUX, which meant buying gold became more expensive even though it dropped in USD terms. You also have the issue of inventory/availability unless going through someone big like the Perth Mint.

    anx.hk discussion

Just thought I'd start a thread specific to this exchange. A friend received the following info which is not all that reassuring (they won't even disclose their fee schedule!): Indeed our fee scheduled remains unpublished which is admittedly frustrating. We offer reduced fees for market makers...

Bitcoin Wallet (Qt) and Litecoin Wallet (Qt) software synchronising ..

Typically exchanges will make $$$ from the following sources: 1) Deposit fees 2) Trading fees 3) Withdrawal fees The fees can be in $$ or BTC, etc. You probably should confirm these before signing up to any exchange so you know what you're getting into.

    BTC-e ??????

Try out localbitcoins for d) as I'm not sure if there is any formal ID process (disclaimer: I haven't used it before). All exchanges I'm aware of require an ID process if you want to withdraw $$$. I have read that a), b), c) is possible though it's not an efficient method as you get gouged with...

How much do you get charged for sell orders? 1%? 0.5?

What at their trading rates? I can't see anything other than "as low as 0.1%". What is the rate for a small trade?

Why Mtgox trades so much higher?

This is what I need to discover. I can see arbitrage difference of roughly 10% (lower when considering fees) at times to Mt Gox but have no idea how I can turn BTC into cash using Mt Gox. No good pouring cash in unless you can get it out somehow.

    Sell now...Buy next year?

Holding gold means you're reducing your exposure to AUD (drops and gains). It's effectively a supranational currency.
